I can't believe they started that game with all the snow on the ground. :o: I don't think that one would have ever gotten started in today's game. Who else thinks they need to bring back the red sport jackets for the home plate umps? :redneck

I went to a Sox game there in April 1984. Sitting on the LF line, directly across from the opening in the RF corner, the wind made its presence known early and often. The coldest night I have ever spent in any park, football or baseball at any time.

First game in team history, no matter what they were starting that on time.

Not to mention he had him at 0-2. Shades of our closer 33 years later?

It was probably Ralphie's last walk of the season. God, watching him flail at curves in the dirt is like some sort of bad acid flashback. :o:

And then there was his D and his ziz zag routes on routine flyballs....

Damn he was fun to watch!

I just read that they called off a game due to the wind on April 30, 1984 at Exhibition Stadium. The wind was obviously pretty vicious at that park.

1959 and 2005 will always be my 2 greatest years as a Sox fan but that summer of 1977 was really something special.
Was there anything more beautiful than a jammed pack Comiskey Park, someone once said that a ballpark is not a real ballpark unlesss it is double decked in the outfield and of course Comiskey was and when those seats were filled as shown in those clips it was almost like looking at a work of art.

That is a gem.

As I was listening to the color commentator I thought, wow, he sounds just like Whitey Ford. Sure enough. I never knew he announced for the Jays.

Obscure baseball fact:

Harry Caray was the visiting team's play-by-play announcer for both Canadian teams' inaugural games - this one in 1977, and the Expos' first home game against the Cardinals in 1969.

I'm not sure if it was this game or the next day...but Channel 44 had all kinds of technical difficulties...and only had a single camera from near the on deck circle the whole game...very bizarre.

Thanks, this is terrific. Vaguely remember coming home from school and watching this game on TV 44, opening day was always a big event

It was the next day that had the technical problems. For opening day, Channel 44 picked up the same video that's seen here from the Toronto broadcast. The next day, channel 44 showed the whole game from a single field-level camera next to the third base dugout.

In a nostalgic sort of way, I miss the low-budget quality of road-game telecasts in those days. Even at their best, they were usually shot with just three cameras, had no replays, and often scratchy video and audio because of line problems. It really felt like you were watching something happening far away from home.

Yep it seemed at certain parks there was no CF camera; Sox games on the road were often shot about 3/4 of the broadcast from a camera somewhere (it seemed) in the upper deck behind home plate somewhere. Low tech!

I am kind of surprised MLB hasn't pulled this video yet. These videos usually don't have a long shelf life on YouTube.

You know, watching that, it looks pretty comfortable given the weather we're having in Chicago right now. I know I'll regret this post in about 5 months though.

Blue Jays need to bring those uniforms back. Just modernize them to be button down and move the Blue Jay head to the side of the buttons.

I was in Toronto yesterday and drove by the site of the old Exhibition Stadium! I think it's called BMO stadium now.

I thought they tore it down, but I could be wrong.

Really, they did that with the unis in the late 80s/early 90s. They jerseys they won the Series in were really good, although I hate that team.

Third baseman comes to the mound toward the end of the clip, shouts: "Hurry up! It's cold as hell out here!"
