Ed Achorn of the Providence Journal has a new book out titled 'Fifty-nine in 84' which tells the story of one Charles Radbourn who won FIFTY NINE games in 1884 for Providence in the NL

Achorn brings Providence of 1884 to life and like most cities in that era it wasn't a wonderful life.

Bob Ryan gushes about it today along with 2 other books.

I'm about 90 pages into this book right now...baeball in the late 1800's is fascinating, it's a completely unexplored territory for me.
