Buehrle barely hit 85 MPH and mowed them down!!

And congrats to Juan on his first HR of the season.

Let's hope we don't need any of these runs in Game Two.

15 games over .500. Season high.

If we play our cards right we can get out of this road trip 20 games over. Can you imagine that, with this team being as buried as it was beginning of June?

6-1 the rest of the way gets us to exactly 20 games over at 66-46. Hell, if we can sweep out (I can only hope), we can be a stunnin 67-45.

What an absolute shocker it would be for all those media *******s, who continue saying our run is not worth anything.

Viciedo's homer was SWEET especially in that park!

Every time he hits the ball a sound barrier has been broken.

To quote Joe Buck from the 2005 world series, except replace Dayan with Jenks:

"The best raw power in the majors is in the hands of Dayan Viciedo"

I'm thinking the opposite. The Twins are hot. The Sox merely need to win a few more against them than they win against us. We're not "taking care of them". They're just too good.

However, we still have plenty of weak teams coming up- and we need to beat the daylights out of all of them.

This just in: Alexei is a very fast runner! 3 infield hits, and not a one was a gimmee. Sox keep taking turns carrying this team...PK,Alex,Carlos,Gordo,Juan,Alexei....who's got next? Dayan?

I love watching Dayan hit. As has been said, he makes me stop to watch him more than anyone else since Frank. When he hits it,the ball winces.

Mark Buehrle just ho-hums his way to another solid outing, with one run given up on him...and one on Liney. He has quietly become our second hottest pitcher behind Gavin.

Now, sweeping a doubleheader is very tough...please find a way to keep it going tonite Sox.

Lillibeast strikes again. Keep this kid up here. And Dayan. Who goes away when Teahen is ready?...DL kotsay til Sept?

9/14/08 vs Tigers--I was there. The rainy weekend from hell.

That was Vazquez's last good game with the Sox, and then the Sox won the 2nd game when Wise hit the grand slam after Thames (I think) hit one in the top of the inning.

I noticed this was the 60th win for the White Sox, and it's only the first week of August. I was reminded of the early season thread in which some insisted this White Sox team would lose 100 games, an most of the disagreements were coming from people who believed this team would finish with only 90-plus losses.

Since the beginning of June, the White Sox have lost less than 20 games. It wasn't just the big winning streak that brought the White Sox up to and over .500, and left them just "mediocre." It was just that another long winning streak followed. This White Sox team is playing great baseball, consistent baseball.

In Oakland, I was talking with someone close to the Sox who told me he believes the offense has really come around for this team, and that is a big reason they are winning. A lot of people haven't noticed. Today's day game was exceptional, but everyone in the lineup -- including the defensive replacements who each only came up once -- got at least one hit with the exception of Vizquel who drove in a run with a sacrifice fly when the game was still in doubt.

Just as people still insist the Giants don't have any offense although they led all of baseball in runs scored in July, people haven't noticed that the White Sox offense has come along nicely.

I think baseball counts a player who gets thrown out at second after being picked off as both a pickoff for the pitcher and a caught stealing for the runner. Obviously, it doesn't count against the catcher if a runner steals after a throw to first.

I don't know if the table shows only the caught stealings recorded by the catcher. It would seem that if there is duplication in the table, it would be noted.

That's because the Sox are scoring fewer runs via the HR and more runs via SFs, ground outs, errors induced because of assertive baserunning, etc. No teal even implied.

Is this all you do?

Come out and bitch about what he said she said from past?

Get over it. This team sucked in April and May. They were on pace to lose 90-100 games. WE WERE ALL WRONG !

No one saw the Sox being this good. No one.

Let's all be happy for once

You turned my post into a Rorschach test. There was nothing unhappy in my post. It was a happy post. I wasn't bickering and arguing over who was most wrong. I wasn't even gloating over the fact that I posted when the Sox were nine games below .500 that this was a good team.

My point was that the White Sox hit their stride, and it hasn't broken yet. After being given up for dead, they have played consistently great baseball for two months and have a good start to the third month, and that the offense isn't nearly as bad as people still insist it it.

Oh that's a good point. Obviously both the pitcher and the runner get a stat added to their line when a PO happens.

My bad then.

I agree with you about the offense. It is clicking pretty dam good now. You even have guys on the bench who should be playing every day. That's a good problem.

Fire Walker no more, notice how those calls have gone away.

Yeah, not many fire Ozzie's either. I didn't know enough about Walker's role to judge him when the offense didn't exist except that I knew he couldn't swing the bat for them. One thing though, IF he was to blame then he should get credit now.

:welcome: :gulp:

2.5, like voodoo said. If the Twins win and we win, we're up 1.5 (because the wins cancel each other out), If the Twins win and we lose, we're only up a half-game.

6 games behind right now.

That's a big climb for two months, but never say never with our club.

Yeah, I don't think the Rays and Yankees are going to roll over and die like the Tigers and Twins did.

MIN had a rough stretch, but they are far from dead. We are only +1.5 on them.

I wouldn't sat DET rolled over and died.

If we lost TCQ, TCM, and Rios, we'd be DOA.

They still let us back in this thing. 1/2 the reason we're leading the division is because they started their All-Star Break 2 weeks early.

And the schedule caught up with them. Early in the year they got fat on some crappy teams then when they started playing better ones they started to struggle. Meanwhile the Sox had a tough early season schedule and then got into an easier part of it.

Yeah, the original table has a column next to the pickoffs with the number of "pickoff caught stealing", which are counted in both the pickoff and caught stealing numbers.

Buehrle has 41 for his career, meaning that only 19 of those 60 caught stealing were on the catcher's throw.

Just saw the highlights from game 1. Outstanding! Happy to hear that Buerhle got his 10th win of the season. Yay!
