Well the fact it's not Torres adds to the intrigue. He's got better stats and more MLB experience.

I have to agree a trade will be announced soon or else something is wrong with Hudson.

Edit: Nevermind about Torres, should have checked his line and realized he pitched last night.

Probably has more to do with freshness; Torres pitched 5 innings last night for Charlotte, Harrell was scheduled to start tonight for the Knights.

Shouldn't the Sox have had the foresight to sit Torres last night. It's not like they didn't know a deal might go down.

Not that I think Torres is great, but I think our chances of winning tonight would be better with him pitching than Lucas Harrell. Every win matters in a race that might come down to the last day of the season.

Clearly, the bats have to come to play tonite vs Anderson, who is tough. We have Harrell going to the bump and that does not comfort me.

I'll be pissed if we get smoked tonight because Harrell sucks, every single game is huge, I don't want an automatic loss simply because Kenny is trying to cook something up.

I am calm, but if Jackson does leave, I want us to get another 5th starter. We can't throw Torres out there every 5th day in a pennant race.

That's what I'm hoping for. The A's won't have seen him, and maybe our new pitcher can do to another team what we have had done to us. This may be the only game we ever see "Harrell #58" on the scorecard, but we shall see what he can do. He may have to hold down another start or two if we flip Jackson and can't acquire someone else.

Go Lucas!

hate to admit this, but I know absolutely nothing about this guy. Stuff? Having a good run at the farm this year?

Hopefully Oz does not hesitate to bring in Pena IF Harrel gets in trouble early....2-3 runs okay....but we cant let the kid put us in an early 5 run hole.....I know we have been wearing the rally caps the last couple nights but.......

Espn preview for tonights Sox game had the Sox at a 37% chance of winning with Hudson starting. Now its at 40% with Harrell on the bump.
Sort of strange.

If that happens, reactionary WSIers will be saying that it's OK to trade Floyd tomorrow because Harrell is obviously ace material.

No teal needed. Someone would.

Kind of like everyone was calling for the Sox to keep Donny Lucy up at the beginning of the year instead of bringing Castro back?

I love reactionary WSIers.

His 4.5 BB/9 innings in his career should bode well, especially since every call-up seems petrified to throw strikes once they come to the big club.

You'll probably never see him pitch in the majors again.

He only got the call because the guys who would have been the first and second choices pitched on Wednesday and Thursday. Not to mention they didnt want to waste a call up on someone who may be a major league pitcher in the future. You dont want to waste an option for 1 day.

He was really their only option.

He doesnt have major league stuff.

How impressive did that kid look tonight? Good movement on his pitches, located pretty well, worked himself into trouble once but *barely* escaped.

Maybe not a starter in the future, but that looked like an arm good enough to be a long reliever/spot starter.

Based on last nite, I think Harrell should be given serious consideration for making that start.

How much is the radar gun off on Sox telecasts? This kid was throwing up to 94mph and regularly at 93mph...I thought he was a noodle arm?

Tough call now...Torres or Harrell? We need someone to win that game vs the O's.

I don't think that's an option if he was officially sent down after the game yesterday. I believe the rule is that a demoted player must remain in the minors for at least 10 days unless they are replacing an injured player. So Harrell wouldn't be eligible to return until a couple days after that start. I'm pretty sure it will be Torres, or possibly Buehrle/Garcia on short rest if one of them gets pulled early on Tuesday.

Harrell looked shaky at first but i imagine that he was pretty damn nervous .. liked his composure though .. he seems to have some intestinal fortitude .. watching the guys interact with him on the bench after he was done did my heart good .. nice job kid ..

Last night was just a classic baseball scene with Harrell. 6 years in the minors, good kid who has made steady progress, struggles early, veteran catcher settles him down, solid 6 innings. Warm, summer night in Chicago, kid gets his first major league win, interviewed after the game in front of 29,000 fans, beer shower from the veterans, thanks his mom and dad, leaves the field with the crowd cheering him.

Just a great night...and nice to see a kid realize his dream.
