Apparently, the Angels have gone from buyers to sellers http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-angels-red-sox-20100729-9,0,4262041.story
Does anyone have have any interest in any of the Angels vets? Matsui? Abreu?

Both would obviously be upgrades to our DH/RF situation(is there anybody who isnt?), but I wouldnt give up much to get either. They are both pretty washed up at this point in their careers and I have a feeling that the Halos would ask for a lot for them. I would take a Luke Scott, Jack Cust, or Adam Laroche for much less.

I am now glad that KW has not made a move for Dunn because of this...

Yes, Matusi or Abreu are not the mashers that Dunn is, but they both probably could be had for a lot less than Dunn. Remember KW was going after Abreu before he signed with LAAOCC? Well, now he can be had. He can either play RF, spelling TCQ, or DH. Plus, Abreu isn't the base clogger that Dunn is and has 16 steals. I think this is our man...

I was hoping the Sox would sign Abreu last winter. I would love for Kenny to pick him up now,as long as Beckham,Viciedo,Hudson,Morel and Carlos are not involved. Bobby is 36 years old but still has 16 stolen bases, oba of .360,14 hrs, 56 rbis...ops of .760...and can still play a decent right field.
He is a vet, who knows pennant and playoff pressure. He is a good clubhouse guy who would fit right in. Do it,Kenny!

Angels should start by firing their crappy manager first.

Abreu would be a nice fit for the Sox. I don't want anything to do with Matsui

I'll take Abreau but would not give up Hudson. If we could get him for Danks or Morel I'd be all for it.

I'll pass on Matsui...he's done.

Abreu will be on the White Sox one day. He is one of those players that KW wanted at some point and didn't get. Those tend to come back to the South Side at age 43...

 Last time I checked, Mike Scioscia was their manager.

Naw. We're good with Rios and his big contract. We have bigger needs.

...didn't they just pick up Haren for the stretch run?

That's odd, to change your philosophy after you set sail with it already.

But if that's the case, Abreu plz.

Hunter in CF, Rios in RF, Quentin DH

I could work with that.

Move Hunter to RF. Rios can run circles around him these days.

i would imagine that KW is now going full tilt boogie after Abreu .. he's mired in a bit of a slump right now .. a change might do him good .. i'd much rather have Torii Hunter though ..

When I read the thread title I thought: Arte Moreno is already selling The Angels?

As far trades go, I don't see a fit. Matsui would obviously be the cheapest, both in terms of payroll, expiring contract, and what we'd have to give up to acquire him, but he's not playing well enough to go after.

Abreu would be too expensive both in terms of payroll, and the talent we would have to give up to acquire him. Pass.

Haren is still under contract through 2012, with an option for 2013. One of the reasons the D'Backs return was so questionable.

Abreu's contract status: 10:$9M, 11:$9M, 12:$9M option ($1M buyout)

No thanks, too much money for someone who is in an obvious decline. Maybe if '12 was a team option, but a vesting option usually gets done and theres no way Abreu will be worth nearly 9m in 2 years.

I'd take Matsui because of his post season experience AND...he's damn good!

So damn good he can barely keep that OPS over .750!

Matsui is washed up. Thank god he wanted to go LA and not come here.

You should be able to get Abreu for a B- prospect.

Edit - didnt realized he was signed for 2 more years at 10 mill per; you can get him for no prospects.

We probably could get Derrick Lee for free. Any interest?

Derek Lee has told the Cubs he will not waive his NTC. Part of this is he doesn't want to move but I think part of it is he also likes the Cubs as an organization. I also think you are underestimating his price tag considerably.
