For pitcher Giovanni Soto.

There's one guy. . . I still think they're gonna swoop in and grab Dunn.

One guy who is average at best.

All this deal do was set the price that Baltimore will recieve if they move Miguel Tejada.

It is a good move by detroit. What happened to teams in the division, not helping other teams in the division?

The Tigers had to do something to try to stay in the race. You can't lose 3 of your main starting 9 and expect to hang around. Seems like a decent move for Detroit. Not a blockbuster but it definitely plugs a hole.

Peralta isn't that good and has a pretty good salary number next season. Also it sounds like this Soto is a pretty solid prospect.

$7MM option for 2011 with a $250K buyout gives detroit an out if he doesn't produce.

True. I just don't see this as such a great upgrade for Detoilet.

They needed to get somebody, and that is what they did.

They did get somebody, how much better are they? That could be debated.

Like posters have said, this move is probably just to stay in the race they are slowly falling out of.

I'm not sure about the slowly part. Looks pretty rapid at the moment.

It's going to take more than Peralta to even keep them in it, forget winning the division. They are already 5 GB.

They have one more vs the Rays, then go to Boston who is now hot.
Then the Sox come to detroit for 4 games....Sox could either give them new life or do the coup de grace on them. If Sox take 3 of 4, by the next week when they come to Soxpark for 3 they could be dead.

"All this does is put the Tigers in a position to contend with us."

Or not.

That's what I was thinking. Seems unusual to trade within the division. Either way, I don't think this will propel the Tigers to the top. As others have mentioned, with all the injuries they have, this basically just plugs a hole. Nothing more.

Last year they sent Pavano to the Twins at the deadline. These types of moves make it easy to despise that miserable franchise in Cleveland.
