Hey all,

I thought you'd be able to help me out with this. I'm incredibly fascinated with the White Sox of the 50s and 60s, and this is reflected in the fact that I wear my '59 Sox cap more than any other cap I own.

I'm curious as to how I can get my hands on a red-trimmed pinstripes jersey from this era. I've seen them around, and we know the Sox have worn them on occasion.

:walkoff:

They also wore them against the Dodgers last year, but I seem to remember criticisms that those were incredibly inaccurate. It's my impression that the actual jerseys were the off-white colour we see AJ wearing above, like this? It's a bit hard to tell if it's poorly lit or not.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NELLIE-FOX-1959-White-Sox-Mitchell-Ness-Home-Jersey-/370381277050?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_Baseball_Fan_Shop&hash=item563c71c77a

The crappy throwback we got last year looks more like this. Kind of cheap:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Throwback-1959-White-Sox-Jersey-Nellie-Fox-48-M-NWT-/140432138513?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_Baseball_Fan_Shop&hash=item20b2686111

Can anyone clear up the differences between these? Was the jersey meant to be off-white, meaning that the Mitchell/Ness jersey from '05 was the most accurate version. I'm tempted to say "yes," but then I see pictures like this one:

That looks like plain white to me.

Does anyone know where to get one of these jerseys aside from Ebay? The Grandstand website appears to be sold out of them, in both the Fox and Aparicio varieties.

PS It wouldn't be possible to get a #19 Pierce version of these, would it?

All teams' home jerseys were cream colored then. They couldn't dye the wool white. This changed when teams started wearing doubleknit uniforms in 1971. Those uniforms actually could be white colored. So, although they would have liked to have white uniforms back in the day, they were actually cream colored. Therefore, I would go with the cream colored jersey.

The M&N jersey is correct - off-white is how these jerseys should look. The second eBay link is a bootleg. The "legit" '59 jerseys are gorgeous.

M&N has a lot of sales, so I'd hold off until they have one.

EDIT: Also, Grandstand's website is rarely up-to-date - I'm pretty sure I saw '59 jerseys in the store yesterday. Also, with the flannel jerseys, I recommend trying them on before buying one.

EDIT #2: If you find a Pierce jersey, let me know. I'd also love one.

Speaking of, Billy Pierce was at the park last night to receive the Roland Hemond award. He's one of my all-time favorite Sox players, loved seeing him there.

M&N had a great sale last Christmas, or the one before that. I was able to get the cream-colored 1959 Nellie Fox for about $150 after taxes.

Love the jersey

To the OP, get the Mitchell and Ness one, do not buy the crappy Majestic one they wore last year. I have the Mitchell and Ness 59 Aparicio and it's hands down the coolest jersey in the collection.

I can't help with your jersey situation, but those '59 jerseys are ****ing awesome. Whoever decided to do away with those and bring in the gray ones needs to be pummeled.

I'm fond of the 1933 Luke Appling jersey, myself.

I love those old jerseys, but I'm sure I'd never want to wear it out.

I always like the 59' SOX uniforms as well. The only thing that bugged me was the logo on the cap did not match the logo on the jersey. Outside of that, they are great!

I just bought an authentic 1983 Joe Crede jersey for cheap because he is no longer on the team. I wear it all the time, it reminds me of a hockey jersey in that I can wear it around frequently.

He's sold out of the Sox stirrups, though, but keep an eye on him, as he may be able to get more. I seriously wish I had bought some when he first put 'em up for sale.

you wouldn't wear that to a sox game homie? If I spent $250 on a shirt, I'd be terrified of it getting dirty. All it would take is one errant blop of mustard, or somebody spilling their beer on me...

Then again, I'm a total tightwad, so the thought of spending $250 on an article of clothing - and I mean any article of clothing - just boggles my mind. Heck, I'm 39 and never owned a suit until my wife bought me one for Christmas last year.

Thanks for posting the link. I knew I had seen them available on the web but couldn't find them.
