Joe Saunders is the best they could do for Dan Haren? Welcome to sucking for years to come, D-Backs.

I'm interested to see who else is included in the package because Joe Saunders + marginal spects for Haren is a steal.

Weird. Certainly not what most expected. Why would AZ want Saunders? Money?

I want to see him pick up a razor and shave his chin. Him not looking like a complete idiot with dyed facial hair would make it a little easier to watch him blow games.

This makes the AL West more interesting...

It still looks like the Wranglers (Rangers) run away with this shortly, IMO.
The rest of the West doesn't impress me. The Halos look lethargic, The A's only win WHEN THEY PLAY THE SOX
and a few other teams, and the Mariners are dead in the water. Big thanks to KW for NOT signing the spelling
challenged Chone Figgins.Boy he's sure helped Seattle contend.

How the hell do the Diamondbacks give up Haren six days before the deadline and don't get Bourjos or Conger?

Edit: And I'm assuming Trout never entered the conversation.

You realize Chone isn't his real name, right? It's a nickname. His real name is Desmond.

Maybe Jim Hendry was on the phone for the Angels.

Yes, and he will see us all in another life. Brotha. His name is Desmond DeChone Figgins.

Wow, that is about the worst deal I could have imagined AZ getting for him. Scratch that, I never could have imagined them getting that little in return.

I actually looked it up before I posted it. I was googling to see WHY they spelled it Chone. I thought there would be a cool story behind it or something.

I don't know if you caught this earlier this week, but in game 1 in Seattle,
Milton Bradley made a sliding catch in the first inning. He then threw out Vizquel trying to score from second on a single.
In the top of the next Steve Stone remarked (and i'm paraphrasing)
"The fans in Seattle are very fortunate as they've just witnessed the greatest 1 2/3 innings of Milton Bradley's career.
He made a great sliding catch (he never slides), and he threw out a runner at home plate.":D:
Stoney can still make me laugh sometimes.

Sooner or later, he's going to get tired of playing on a non contender year after year.If KW could steal him (and that's a big IF), it would be great.

What the hell is wrong with the D-backs? First they make a big overdraft in Loux, who btw failed his physical IIRC, and now they dump Haren for Saunders and manage to salvage only two no-names out of that rich farm system? If I were a D-backs, I better hope that PTBNL is Bourjos or Conger.

There is a PTBNL in this deal and according to sources that player will be "excellent." Basically its whoever the Dbacks ask for except Mike Trout. Not sure why said player wasnt involved in the original deal, but it may be a bit early to judge this 1.

They've got a climb.

Honestly, I'm glad he didn't go to the Yankees or Rays. The Angels need a lot more than Haren, so this can be viewed as a win for the Sox.

Many reports are saying the PTBNL is Skaggs.

Hmm, not bad although if I were the D-backs, I'd have taken better and fewer prospects in exchange for not getting Saunders.

I find it hard to believe that no other GM could have topped the bag of turds sent to the DBacks. Especially surprising is that it happened six days before the deadline. How do you not hold out for more?

Are Joe Saunders and Adam LaRoche coming to the southside for a second bag of turds and maybe D Hudson?

It's a shame we didn't have enough enough turds to send them for Haren ourselves.

Joe Saunders? Really D-backs? :rolling:

The Sox sent a higher regarded prospect for Tony Pena than the Angels sent for Haren.
Set a higher prospect for Richar, too. And Quentin.
Ridiculous.

With the Rangers getting Cliff Lee and also the need for better quality starting pitching, I understand why the Angels made this move. They also get someone locked up up for the next two seasons at a minimum - with a club option for a third season ($15.5M salary vs $3.5M buyout). They will owe him $25.5M for '11 and '12, but I think Arte Morenocan afford it.
