It's a good thing my hotel room here in St. Louis has WGN America. What a night Omar had a third!

Meanwhile, 3.5 up!!!!!

Great effort by Danks. He is stepping it up, indeed!

Super defensive and offensive nights for Paulie, Alex, Alexei, and that 'kid' Omar at 3B.

We gain a game on both MIN and DET! :bandance:

And what's up with Bradley? Is this how he celebrates Piniella's retirement?

At least he didn't throw his helmet at a fan.

Good baseball is so much fun to watch especially at 2 hours 20 minutes.

Looked like dueling banjos on the left side of the infield tonight. I have never doubted Alexei's physical abilities to play the position, but mentally he seems to finally be there.

Great outing by Senor Danks and good bounce back from Jenks.

And tack on another full game in the standings.

These West Coast trips aren't fun for us fans here in the Midwest, but I am liking the way this trip is starting this year. Usually when the Sox head out west I get worried about how the record will look when they get back, but I had\have a good feeling about this trip and it has started off as good as possible... keep it rolling Sox!!! Don't let your foot off the gas, and please don't even think of taking that foot off the Twinks and Tigers throats...

Why not, I guess having Kotsay and Jones in the line-up could lead us to worry, but hopefully Ozzie will fix that, and maybe, just maybe TCQ can make it back (even though it sounds like he is out until Friday ). We will need TCQ I think against King Felix.

I think Floyd will match him pitch per pitch since their offense is putrid. It will be tough and a couple Mariners have hit Gavin well (Ichiro and Lopez). Hopefully we can jump on him early.

Hope the Twins and Tigers are feeling uneasy tonight.

The Twins and Tigers were uneasy a month or so ago, right now they are downright suffocating with what the White Sox are doing, or winning consistently.

Everything is lining up for the Sox, they have an easy road trip after a devastating loss in Minessota and Detroit and Minnesota fail to maintain the lead. It's amazing that they are losing on the same days while the White Sox are winning. 3.5 up, who would have ever thought this was going to happen nearing the end of July? I am overjoyed by this teams performance.

Alexei is absolutely amazing, and it has been great watching him grow up at shortstop this year. Vizquel, well, we know why he is going to be a hall of famer- what a glove that guy has going over there. Teahen is in some serious trouble.

Also, can anyone update me on how well Kotsay is doing over his last 15 games...or whatever wacky sample size that may look like he can actually still hit at the MLB level. It is starting to look like this was a good time to go out west. It is cooler in Seattle(69 degrees tonite) and it gives the team a bit of a break from hot weather. Oakland will be the same...then back home for the heat of August refreshed.

I love having Alex Rios in center. He is a pure joy to watch lope gracefully across the green to run down those drives. It is very comforting to know we have him out there, hopefully for a long time.

Omar is a magician at third...and Alexei is a SS in full right now.
Sox got what they needed on offense and then just pitched and defended well.
PK hit the ball well. He is slowing down on homers,of course it is two huge parks in a row in Minny and Seattle, but he is really making good contact with two doubles.
Alex gets an rbi every nite lately it seems. Just steady as heck.
Alexei went golfing on that homer...:D:

So even with AJ, Andruw,Kots, and Beckham not contributing, we got enough. AJ looked out of it tonite again...oh well. Maybe let Ramon eat King Felix tomorrow?

Last nite of free MLB package on DTV for me...and it has been a real joy the last two nites to watch the Tigers and Twins go down then the Sox win....sweeeettttt!
Mauer is getting heat for bunting with men on 1st and 2nd and one out,tie game in the 7th...moved the runners but got thrown out and Kubel then grounded out. ...:D: After the game when asked about it...Gardy said..go ask joe!....trouble in paradise?

Can I add I am most pleased not to be playing the tribe until the end of August and only 6 games total? They are scary right now with swagger and confidence...based on not much. Sox do finish the season vs the tribe at home..last three games...hmmm.

Detroit is dying. 7 straight losses...for fans it is like death...a streak like that just cuts your desire for baseball right out. Texas played a great game tonite and made the tigers look bad. Detroit is on the mat, and have to play up in toronto for 4 followed going to the Rays for 4. They could be almost out of this by the end of the month. One writer from detroit said they should be sellers at the deadline...ouch.

WOW! It looked like Omar and Alexei were trying to outdo each other! What a defensive pair! And Paulie, just throw the ball somewhere in his vicinity, and he can pick it "with a tweezer!"

Omar is awesome at third, and he needs to stay there. He rubs off on Alexei big time out there.

Also, can anyone update me on how well Kotsay is doing over his last 15 games...or whatever wacky sample size that may look like he can actually still hit at the MLB level. This dude should be cut tomorrow. Think about it, a team would rather have Brian Anderson than him...and he is now our everyday DH! Nice plan Ozzie!

Kotsay is hitting .267 since june 8th. Not great, but not enough to cost us all 8 of our losses since then...or win all 28 of our games.
Tonite he did have an RBI, and was robbed of 3 hits. Hard luck hitter this year. Andruw is the one who has really looked helpless up there at times.

I agree with mccoy. I'm in North Carolina this week celebrating a birthday and it is frustrating as hell not being able to get more news about the Sox. That's why I am grateful for WSI and a few other Sox sites. Without them, I'd have about ten paragraphs of Sox news.

This last month has got to be the greatest run of the Sox in my lifetime - save Oct 2005 and the second half of 1983.

How the hell are we up 3.5 after being down 9.5 games just 42 days ago? While I saw most of the game last night on WGN America, I need my Sox news. And the Trib gives us the Cubs and Phil Rogers.

Man, I feels good to have a CF that can go get 'em like that and hit. Alexei, this is what your game looks like when you focus and relax (and it gets warmer outside). That 9th inning play? Mercy! Omar, there are a lot of posters here that owe you an apology. I'm hoping that Ozzie can convince TCQ to DH more so that Andruw can play RF more often. Andruw is lost at the plate, but having him in RF gives us no weak links defensively.

I don't care if Seattle is in last, it's still great to win the first 2 of a road series.

The amazing thing is that we've wiped out the gain Minnesota made by taking 3 of 4 from us. We're back to where we started (vs. Minn) at the all-star break - leading by 3.5 games and we've knocked 4 games in MN off the schedule and 6 games off of our "brutal" road trip. (of course, that doesn't mean I'm still pissed that we blew a chance to increase our lead even more vs. them thanks to our crappy play:angry:). ....and yes, we've gained on Detroit too. Nice to be able to do that after going only 3-3 in 6 games.

Now we face the M's ace, so it'll be a tough game to win. Looking at Felix's recent outings, he typically goes very deep into games and usually allows only 1 or 2 runs per outing. 11 runs allowed over the last 7 outings including 5 complete games in that stretch (plus another game where he went 8 2/3). So, we're really going to have to shut down Seattle's offense again tonight.

This team is so much fun to watch right now. Omar and Alexei are putting on a show. Last night Omar had one of the most dominant defensive games I can remember by any player. The catch that Rios casually made in the gap was unbelievable. Almost any other CF in baseball would have had to lay out for it and many of them wouldn't have reached it. He is a special player.

I think it's a no-brainer that the top story would be Piniella retiring. But I have to admit that I had a little chuckle after looking at the Trib's main web page this morning and thought of WSI . The "Sports" area of their main page has the following stories: Top = Ricketts signals changing of the guard. Then the Piniella story. Then the story about yesterday's Cubs game and then 4th is "Sox Lead Central By 3 1/2 Games".

I just found the order there funny. I think the Sox have come a long way in getting better coverage since the "Somber Streak" days. Part of that might be the Trib selling the Cubs and part might be that the Sox have gotten better coverage since winning the World Series.

Seriously, if the Cubs were leading by 3.5 games and the Sox were well out of the race, the media wouldn't give a damn if Konerko had a 3 HR night. But, that's life for us Sox fans. As long as our team stays in first I'm happy and we'll be fine no matter how our coverage ranks.

We've been better against him than average. He's 2-2 in 7 starts vs. the Sox with a 3.74 ERA and 1.43 WHIP.

I know it'll be sacrilegious to say this, but the best Sox player against Felix lifetime has been Kotsay (7-for-16, 4 2B).

If only we still had Brian Anderson, he has two home runs off the King.

It's a good thing my hotel room here in St. Louis has WGN America. What a night Omar had a third!

Meanwhile, 3.5 up!!!!!

:)

Anyone who thinks Detroit or Minnesota can catch us is nuts!:reinsy

Hangar, is that you? :redneck

This makes me miss the "Tommorow's Tribune Headline" threads! Those were a riot while they lasted.

Isn't Hangar the admin of a different White Sox board? The exact website slips my mind. Sox and the city or in the city? Idk.

Hitmen77 was a good headline writer. You'd swear he actually worked for them-a few that he wrote bore a close resemblance to later headlines.

I personally used to love writing over-the-top "Onion"-type headlines.
