Had a bad feeling about this one all day. Tough one to take.

Too bad Gordon's great day and Freddy's gritty effort go for naught.

At least DET helped by not showing up this weekend against CLE.

Let's see how they regroup.

In all fairness, if we'd have been playing MIN at The Cell, trailing by three in the bottom of the ninth, with Nathan (or Rauch) blowing the lead, we'd have done the exact same thing.

Remember, the Twins have been struggling, and that kind of win can build confidence. Of course they should be excited.

A poster posting or not posting has what to do with Jenks' alleged awfulness?

Jenks has been solid over the last month; he was terrible today? Does that really warrant tossing him aside, especially when he has trade value.

No winning teams, Bobby Jenks continues to be mentally incapable against the Twins. What ****ing jokes, could have had a 2.5 game leave, and 3.5 on the Twins. We love this, **** you Bobby.

Wow, I heard Peter Gammons on the Score last week and he was talking about how one of Ozzie's great strengths as a manager is the way he handles his bullpen and his pitching staff -- good thing I consulted WSI or I might have believed that Gammons knew what he was talking about!

The Sox slipped on a banana peel in this one. Sucky way to lose, but far from a reason to freak out, panic, or open an artery.

I didn't even know Gammons knew about any other teams except the Red Sox and Yankees....

Bobby has been great in the past for us. Even this year, his numbers are pretty good. The problem, though, is its obvious he no longer possesses the stuff that he once had.

He can't blow guys away anymore so he has little to no margin for error in the way of walks. His once 12 to 6 curve is a thing of the past as well. His successes this year have been more attributable to guile, in my view, than his current abilities. Its tough going into the 9th in any game without confidence in your closer.

So what you're saying is there's no way we're going to win the division now and we're now going to lose 11 straight and not even put up a fight down the stretch.

The only change in the divisional race is that the Twins and Tigers are now tied for second and our lead is bigger than when the series began. *****.

this could be one of those defining moments that send them into an extended tailspin and right out of the division race.

Or it could be one of those defining moments that propel this team to go 25-5 over their next 30 games and run away w the division.

Or it could have no effect at all and the race will go down to the last week of the season.

Unfortunately, this is the kind of win that can get the Twinkies on a big roll. Especially considering the easy looking schedule they have coming up.

I hope we can avoid a nasty slump, but it seems like after a big hot streak, that's what often times happens. Hopefully we can minimize it, but it won't be easy after a harsh loss like this one.

SoxandtheCityTee

None of these three losses reminds me of the bad old days in the TrashBagDome. The Sox rallied in Game 2 and fell short; Burls gives up three runs in one inning and we lose by one run; a blown save today, always the most gut-wrenching of losses, but Bobby's done that in places other than MN.

Meanwhile, DET gets four-game swept by CLE, so the Sox are still in first. This just doesn't have the feel, to me, of a season-ruining bad series. It does have the feel of a three-way Divisional race to the end or near the end, but I was assuming that anyway.

Indeed. We shouldn't be worrying about the Twins; we suggest the team is psyched out by Minny but it seems as if we are the ones psyched out. They'll be there at the end; they always are. I'm more concerned about the situational hitting failures that cost us some late additional runs and, of course, Bobby's implosion in general (not because it was Minnesota).

Is everyone done freaking out now?

As for the game, this wasn't Bobby's fault. I took of my lucky hat before the 9th inning without thinking and then Jenks couldn't throw a strike. Sorry guys, serious mental slip.

How frustrating are walks, especially 9th inning walks when you are up 3? Seriously think about it, a walk is equivalent to a home run in that situation. Why would you let them bring the tying run to the plate? You have to make them hit the ball.

Oh, and some people's antics around here are getting out of hand and extremely tired. Seriously, the "sky is falling" guys need to get a grip.

Brutal loss. Reminds me of the one in 2001 where Foulke coughed it up in the 9th inning when the Sox had a chance to close to within a few games...they never recovered.

They can't blame this one on the Metrodome can they?

What they can blame it on is being mentally weak anytime they see the word "Minnesota" or "Twins" as well as being poor fundamentally. Like the song says, "the fundamental things apply as time goes by..."

The Twins are thinking, "we beat them three out of four WITHOUT Morneau....we've got them just where we want them."

They've lost four of six in Minnesota this year...same old, same old.

Now the pressure is really on Hudson tomorrow night isn't it?

7th loss this season where they had a lead in the 7th inning or later. Second time where it happened in the 9th inning.

Unbelieveable.

I saw the throw come in from center field, thanked Alex for ending the game early, and turned it to the golf tourney on NBC.

I'm not sure why people are blaming him for this. He gets the throw in, we have a tie game with bases loaded and no one out. Like Minnesota wouldn't have found a way to score in that situation.

I said it in the game thread and I'll say it again. That long at-bat by Hudson is what did us in. Once that happened, I had some bad vibes about how that inning was going to play out and sure enough, that's exactly what happened. You still have to give Hudson credit though. He fouled off everything and let Bobby dig his own grave. Sign of a true Major League hitter.

We'd celebrate the same way if we just beat the leaders of the division who couldn't be stopped coming into the series after being down by 3 going into the 9th.

They were celebrating like kids who got the gift they never hoped to get on Christmas morning, because frankly that's exactly what they got.

Okay, missing the point slightly. There is no doubt in my mind that if we, or any team in Major League Baseball, had won a game on a walk off hit that they would celebrate. However, my point was that their celebrating was not because they just won the AL Championship. You might remind your friends of that. Either that or you do plenty of smack talking throughout the season and now you can't take the heat.

Still in first place.

Not panicking.

Bullpen role shuffle in order.

Jenks should run laps until he pukes.

Beckham and Alexei looking very good.

Need to win the next four series.

And our first place lead increased three-fold over the course of the weekend, in spite of the losses by us.

Although that was a pathetic throw, I'm glad he got this game over when he did. I couldn't take another pitch by anyone wearing Sox Jerseys today. Santos was not going to get anyone out let alone 3 straight, if that's what Hawk (who was once again bitching and crying like a child ) or anyone else thought was possible.

Hang this one on Bobby, Bobby only.

True, it was on Bobby only. When you have two walks and then throw a hanging whatever that was to Kubel when you had him 1-2, may as well just mail this one in.

I don't think people are pissed because they're rationalizing as if the Sox just lost their lead in the division. They're pissed because the Sox have found stupid reasons to lose the last three games and are in jeopardy of losing their 1.5 game lead (which isn't bombproof FYI) if they continue to play this way.

You may be right. I'm sure we all wanted to believe the team had turned the corner on some of the woes (low quality defense, poor situational hitting, poor hitting in general, late game issues) that plagued us earlier in the season. Hopefully we have for the most part and this was simply a bad series; we'll find out over the next week probably.

Hopefully after this one they all walked into the locker room, Ozzie let them throw **** around for 5 minutes and then said, "OK, that one's over. Get it out of your mind and out of your system now. Plane leaves for Seattle in an hour." And then he needs to burn any tapes of this game, except for Beckham going 4-for-4.

It boils down to: Keep winning and Minnesota and Detroit can't catch you. We made up a lot of ground fast because we were winning and they were losing. When you're in first, take care of your own business and it doesn't matter what the teams behind you do. It only matters when you play them and can control their fate. We now have 13 straight games against two teams we should beat the **** out of. Beat those teams and let Minnesota and Detroit worry about finding ways to catch us.

Lip, you should know, if you have anything bad to say about the White Sox, you are a pants pissing dark cloud. This is the GREATEST Sox team EVER assembled because they had a stretch where they were just unbeatable. Nothing bad can be said about them again EVER.

Oh sure they just pissed away THREE wins and had the chance to step on the throats of Detroit and Minnesota, and sure their inability to record a single out cost them what? two games in the standings but when has THAT ever come back to hurt us? And I'm sure that some dark cloud is going to point out that against the Central they are 17 and 19 (including eight losses to Cleveland), but those people are obviously dark clouds who have no sense of logic.

Have you considered that people possibly have lives that exist outside of WSI which means they can not post after every White Sox game? It's a shocking concept, I know that that certainly does not apply to me, but I am told that some people engage in something called "work" which results in large gaps of time being taken up in which one is unable to go to a computer and post their thoughts on the White Sox or any other topic. It is just a little fishy that Lip seemingly disappeared during the good times, and is back just in time for troubles in Minnesota.

When you go on a run like they did, what CAN you say? "Wow, they're playing really great baseball!" Sit back and enjoy it. Plus, Lip mainly provides historical background, there is no real historical precendent for the way they played (maybe July of 1977). He did mention everytime they had a 10 game winning streak once, and mentioned that the last was in 1976 (a team that lost 90 games) and then everyone harped on him for being a dark cloud.

If one thing us Sox fans should be happy about with this series, Kenny is going to have to make a move to put us over the top rather than accepting us for being good enough already.

The Sox left a lot of runs on the bases, being thrown out at the 2nd. Ozzie needs to give his ego a rest with his insistency that Kotsay, no matter how badly he hits, is a DH and that bunting is a smart strategy in a slugfest.

This is where Guillen earns his keep as manager...make sure that this debacle is immediately shaken off. We're facing a hot team next week.

I sure hope Kenny Kenny decides to pull the plug on Ozzie's little toy.

And I know folks are going to come in here and say, "well 6 runs is plenty enough offense." That's not the point. If you score 6 then go and score 9. The Sox had plenty of opportunity to score a few more runs today.

Despite this 25-5 run we had, it almost felt like most of these games came down to Thornton, Putz, and Jenks. That's a lot of stress we have put on those guys. They were due to start blowing some games.

The best part about this is while I was working for about 30mins, thinking about how the Sox are back in this thing, being up 6-3 and having a 2.5 game lead in 1st place... all this was going on at the same time. I'm so glad I didn't get to watch (hear) this game, because I'd probably be as mad as you all are right now.

Hudson better not suck tomorrow, and the Sox better win 2 or 3 in a row (or the series), because my disbelief in the run being a fluke might change if they continue to play like they did to start the season. Yes it was all on Bobby and Santos (who shouldn't be dealing with that much pressure pitching being a rookie), but you win as a team and fall as a team. I hope it's just a Minnesota Twins curse, and the Sox make another run. Momentum isn't a myth.

Between Kotsay and Jones, give me the guy who atleast will do one thing great.
