Haha it seems like everyone we trade for Freddy comes back to us eventually. Miguel Olivo for backup catcher anyone? :redneck

Yes! The future HOF is back. Someone needs to link the Freddy Garcia trade thread. That was by far the best thread ever!

Ridiculous.

Maybe he can now get his assured HOF career back on track.

Coop'll fix em!!

I wonder if this means Danks could be on his way out. Not of the organization just out of Charlotte. His numbers are no bueno. Sounds like depth with Reed. With him going to Charlotte, I have to imagine a demotion is coming soon and Danks could fit that bill.

Just out of curiousity, when was the last time the Sox actually had a "pre-cursor" move?

Supposedly Reed is taking De Aza's spot who is on the DL.

Epic thread is hilarious. Interesting part is some posters throw around the term "World Series" not thinking that the title a year later was even possible.

But I have to being up one thing... Had we sent Anderson to the Mariners instead of Reed, would we have made the playoffs in 2006?

I know, shoulda coulda woulda...

There were similar "meltdown" threads when we acquired Gavin Floyd and John Danks too.

Where are the doom sayers now? Looks like Reed might be wearing a Sox cap on his HOF plaque after all.

Seriously, though, seems like Reed might be a good guy to have on the bench if needed.

That Freddy Garcia thread actually wasn't as shocking as I thought. It looks like more people were upset over Olivo leaving than Reed, and at the time, it looked like it was only for a three month rental.

So...was the confusion/anger actually deserved?

Giving up a talented 25 year old catcher was hard to swallow. Obviously in retrospect, it was well worth it. Good starting pitching is about the only thing that trumps a good catcher, in my book.

You have to love that thread. References to Reed making people forget Ordonez as soon as he comes up.

Garcia is overrated when he had a 3.20 ERA with only 4 wins. He was also a alcoholic and another adjective I can't remember.

A reference to acquring Mark Prior and people would still bitch.

The White Sox got fleeced.

This thread is histerical.

I think Flight #24 nailed it in the original threat. This has to be why he was brought back:

I'm glad that I was on the right side there cheering the acquisition. Of course I was then dead wrong on the Fingernails trade, but luckily I was overseas and away from Internet so I couldn't post such feelings. If I didn't post it, it never happened. :redneck

I was all for the Garcia trade, but I remember thinking that Olivo was going to become the next Ivan Rodriguez. I guess he needed some steroids.

I only read a few pages of the Garcia thread, but it was pure gold. Kenny got fleeced by the only GM worse than him? Reed would make people forget about Ordonez? LOL. That should serve as a reminder for all the arm chair GMs that maybe we don't know more than KW.

I was a 6th grader in 2004 and I was Garcia's first ever game with the Sox, a win over Minnesota in the dump. I do not know who Jeremy Reed is, but it probably has something to do with me only being a 6th grader and he was probably a prospect?

Nice reference to Jimmy Reed's "Baby, What You Want Me To Do?".
After playing in countless blues bands,i'm all too familiar with this one.

Other Reeds of note (living or dead)

Rex Reed
Robert Reed (God bless Mike Brady!)
Reed Nichols (caught the last out of Tom Seaver's 300th victory)

Feel free to add on.:D:

Yep...hot summer day game, I believe against the Cubs, with Olivo getting pulled early. I seem to recall the Sox wearing some kind of throw back uniforms that day and I think they won.

I was at that game and remember hearing we got Garcia on the radio in the parking lot after the game. I was also at the game on July 1, 2003 when the Sox traded for Roberto Alomar before the game and Carl Everett during. We beat the Twins, and it was a great feeling leaving the park. Despite the season ending in failure, that day is one of my fondest non-world series memories of the Sox.

Jeremy Reed was Brian Anderson before there was a Brian Anderson. Except he bombed with someone else.
