Yes, we're still several hours from first pitch, but we know who will be starting on the mound for each respective league, David Price for the AL vs. Ubaldo Jimenez for the NL.

I can't wait for the conclusion of the All-Star festivities so we can resume what really matters, the drive to the playoffs and World Series.

The perfect scenario: The AL wins this with the following two things happening...

Matt Thornton gets the win.
Paul Konerko comes to the plate with the sacks packed and hits one to stevemcstud with the PaulieWood sign.

Perfect scenario:

1. AL wins
2. Thornton doesn't play
3. Paulie doesn't get hurt

I know many feel the home field advantage to the winner of the ASG is a cheap ploy for ratings, but I have to admit that I tend to watch it more since that rule came into play. Especially when I feel the Sox have even a longshot of being in the World Series. I have always rooted for the AL but care more about the outcome now.

What is it,12 in a row for the AL? Odds are the NL is going to win one of these years...just hope it is in a year the Sox are out of it at the break.
In other words, when I have died and gone to the bullpen in the sky.

The AL has a great lineup again this year, but the pitching edge looks to be in the NL. I remember the last game in Anaheim, when it was an extra innning 1-0 game. I think it could be another 1-0,2-1 type game. Aren't the shadows a problem in Anaheim around gametime?

Hitmen77

Perfect scenario:

1. AL wins
2. White Sox get to take advantage of this in October.

By the way, this is the 3rd All-Star Game at Angel Stadium. This ballpark also hosted the ASG in 1967 and 1989 (when it was called "Anaheim Stadium").

I wouldnt mind seeing heroics by our guys in the ASG...but the second perfect scenario thread post is what I want too.

I actually have to root for someone thanks to the stupid rule and us being in first place. Game 1 in US Cellular Field.
I expect this game to be low scoring, AL wins at the end.

kingpin_rcs
07-13-2010, 06:51 PM
My scenario:

Joe Girardi stupidly does not use Thornton or Konerko

NL wins

Sox got to World Series

Sox sweep again but this time victory at home!

I know it's a flawed game,etc...but I LOVE the All Star game...always have. The introductions are the best part for me.

I remember playing wiffle ball in our yard just before Reggie Jackson hit the bomb at Tiger Stadium in 1971. The 1983 and 2003 games at our ballpark.

It's the one All Star game where they play a truly competitive game vs. the Pro Bowl or NBA, NHL games where they aren't really checking/playing defense, etc.

I doubt the British care about our anthem. They're too busy hating their own.

Our anthem is actually very good when played with the proper gusto and at the right tempo. The World Cup opened my eyes to this.

Frater Perdurabo

I'm no harumphy fogey, but I hate caterwauling of the national anthem.

It's so hard to sing because it requires an immense vocal range; high notes and low notes. Even some of the best singers don't have a range that broad, so they have to change up the tune to fit their range.

Or they could always try falsetto on the high notes.

It's the local Fox news and it's during a baseball broadcast. Of course they have to play up Lou, Girardi and the Cubs. That's baseball for Chicago!

But if the Sox are in the playoffs, they will jump on that bandwagon fast.

Did McCarver just butcher that or am I missing something? The ball was hit to Mauer's *left*, which made it a risky play, but not terrible on his part, to try to take third. You absolutely never go if the ball is hit to your right (in front of the runner), which it wasn't in this case.

My baserunning knowledge is that you should always be hesitant at taking third if the ball is hit to the shortstop.

If the ball is hit behind you you should go, but a lot of it depends on your speed. Konerko probably shouldn't be going to third on a ball hit anywhere but the OF.

Yes, that goes without saying, and obviously you need to know where the fielders are positioned. But, if you're running on contact, a general rule is that you can beat a play at third if the ball is hit behind you (up the middle), while you're going to have a tough time making it safely if the ball is hit in front of you. But, beyond that, McCarver butchered the "rule". The ball was hit behind Mauer, not in front of him.

Depends on the runner's lead and where the shortstop is playing. If the shortstop is playing up the middle and the runner has a good lead with a good secondary, it's easy to have the ball behind you.
