My cousin went to it back when it was at U.S. Cellular (or was it still Comiskey at the time?) and said that it was only exciting if you felt a particular draw for the person that was hitting.

It kinda pisses me off that they have such unqualified people competing a home run hitting contest. I should be the players who have hit the most home runs period. Average doesn't matter, OBP doesn't matter, SBs don't matter. This is solely a HR hitting contest and some of these players are so unqualified its not even funny, and so far its showing.

Michael Clarke Duncan is our rep! Awesome!

Is he a legit fan, or is it like Shawn Johnson last year who wore a Sox hat because she couldn't wear a Cubs one in St Louis?

I never knew that about Johnson.

Duncan narrated our World Series DVD. That's all you need to know.

I know he was born and raised on the southside, which is a pretty good indicator.

I didn't get to see the softball game, but reading the thread reminded me of the MTV Rock n Jock softball games back in the 90's. I always enjoyed how goofy they made things, such as opening doors on the outfield walls so you could run through them to catch a HR, or when Salt-n-Peppa had their own special rule that their teammate could call into play, which would load the bases with Salt, Peppa and Spinderella. It was really cool seeing guys like Frank and Griffey goof around in that game.

My best memory of that game is Frank Thomas crushing an 8-run homerun.

They had a baseball painted up like an 8-ball and you had to specifically ask for that ball to be used for your AB.

I was at the Old Timers Game in 1990 at the Urinal.

This was before it was tricked up with kiddie fences and short bases.

It was a real game, AL v. NL. Ernie Banks played SS and committed several errors. But the highlight was when Dick Allen crushed a mammoth line drive home run to deep center field, almost to the scoreboard.

I wish I had had a video camera. Well, I wish that I had had a modern HD camcorder that day. I'm not sure the Old Timers game was televised back then. I wonder if Fenway would know if any video exists?

If it does, MLB is unlikely to release it.
