Hopefully with our new rotation, we can start out strong against MN

Danks, Floyd, Buehrle and Garcia.

Under Ozzie the Sox are 39 games under 500 in the 2nd half.

Wow, that's a crazy stat. Then again, he's managed some really bad teams ('07, '09 to name a few), so I can't quite blame him...still, that stat is...wow.:?:

This will be a challenge for Ozzie because the White Sox are not going to run away with this thing. They are not even in first after this amazing stretch.

I don't expect the White Sox to play sub.500 ball the second half. But it is obvious if they want to win the division, they have to take care of Minnesota and Detroit. His players have to do most of it, but he can't allow himself to be out-managed. It will be interesting to watch because the race will be so close. If the White Sox win, it will be hard to not to give Guillen his due no matter how goofy we think he is.

Historically this has been and will be a fascinating year.

To me, you can basically forget about all other games besides the 17 against Minnesota and Detroit. If the Sox go +4 on those, they can play 0.500 ball for all I care.

27 games. That's a month of baseball. 14 with Det. 13 with Min.

Typo! But you get the gist. I'm not quite sure if Minnesota is going to fall off the deck but really it doesn't even matter how ****ty they are, if they beat the Sox then we still have a problem. The Sox need to start off strong against Detroit following the break and push the other two out of contention by September. Then, and only then, they can survive the type of scare that happened in '05 with the Tribe.

After the All-Star break under Ozzie:

2004 - 37-41 (46-38 at break, finished 83-79)
2005 - 42-34 (57-29 at break, finished 99-63)
2006 - 33-41 (57-31 at break, finished 90-72)
2007 - 33-43 (39-47 at break, finished 72-90)
2008 - 34-33 (+ 1 win in Game 163) (54-41 at break, finished 89-74)
2009 - 34-40 (45-43 at break, finished 79-83)

That's only 18 under (19 if you don't count the 1-game playoff vs. Minnesota in 2008).

If you go with 1st 81, last 81 each year, you get:

2004 - 40-41 (43-38 after first 81)
2005 - 44-37 (55-26 after first 81)
2006 - 37-44 (53-28 after first 81)
2007 - 36-45 (36-45 after first 81)
2008 - 43-38 (+1 win in Game 163) (45-36 after first 81)
2009 - 37-44 (42-39 after first 81)
2010 - 5-0 (43-38 after first 81)

That's only 6 under (7 if you don't count the playoff game).

Somebody pulled the 39 games under stat out of their ass.

after the four gamer vs Minn to start the second half, the Sox play 13 straight against Seattle and Oakland - leading into the stretch mentioned: 7 vs Detroit, 6 vs Minn, and 4 vs Baltimore.

Thank you for doing the math. After the win today I looked up how may games Guillen is over .500 in his tenure (61 or 62, I've been drinking) so the 39 number seemed odd.

Odd why someone would post that.

Really feeling a 2-2 split here----and I really would not complain about us going on the road and doing that either

I'm going to enjoy the Sox being in first place as much as I can during the All-Star Break, because there is no way they will still be in first place after a 4-game series in Minnesota.

I'm going to enjoy them being in first place during the break.

And we aren't going to the Dome on Thursday. Their days of home dominance are over.

Whoops! I confused where the Sox are now with where the Sox will be after we come home from MSP.

The Twins have proven earlier this season that they don't need the A/C and the baggie to beat the crap out of us. They own us at home no matter where home us. And usually they own us at our own home too.

The Sox beating the Twins has, for the last 10 years, been the exception and not the rule. Usually they spank and humiliate us.

Hey Homefish, I make it a policy not to challenge people on their mindset, but for real? This past month gave you no twinges of that great feeling where our pitching is so good and then the hitting is there so you feel we are never really out of it? It's worth a few days of feeling good, no?

Of course the Sox have to play the Twinkies tougher than they have in the past. We'll see.

We played one two-game series up there and split it, losing the second game of the series 3-2.

When we dropped two of three to them at the Cell in the second series of the season, we lost 4-3 and 2-1.

Again,.

Twins have played some uninspired baseball lately. They can't hit. Their pitching - especially the starters - are struggling. And they're making more errors than normal.

Some of that is the loss of Morneau. The Twins will be back, and probably very soon. It's critical the Sox take care of them when they look bad like now.

You can guarantee that Gardenhire is going to have them ready for this series, because he knows their season really could be on the line here. They can stop their skid and play themselves right back into the race with a 3-1 series win or a sweep. Splitting it means 4 fewer chances to make up ground. They lose this 3-1 or get swept, and they're in a very deep hole.

There's a very big difference between being 9.5 games back with 100 to play and being 7.5 back with 70 to play.

That is an utterly false statement and one that always bugs me because people tend to believe it. Except for the fluke 2001 season and last year, the Sox and Twins play even.

2000: Sox 7- 5
2001: Twins 5- 14
2002: Twins 8- 11
2003: Twins 9- 10
2004: Twins 9- 10
2005: Sox 11- 7
2006: Twins 9- 10
2007: Split 9- 9
2008: Twins 9- 10
2009: Twins 6- 12

The "Twins dominate us" mantra is a myth and will continue to be a myth.

Twins are not playing that great in Target Field so far. Just does not worry me like the Humpdome. I like our chances of going up there and splitting at least. Pavano is the only starter going decent for them now.
Baker was getting a shot in his elbow this weekend. If they are playing like they have, I would rather face them than Cleveland or KC,both who hit the heck outta the ball vs the Sox.

Be nice if Morneau is still out for that series but I doubt it.
The way we are defending, pitching, running and mashing, the Twins should be the ones concerned.

We need to kick the Twins while they're down. Taking a series in Minny would be huge for us and demoralizing for them. The sooner we can get rid of some of the competition, the better.

Rozner is another variation on Kaplan. A Cub fan who talks out his ass when it comes to the White Sox.
