...with his season ending injury, do the Sox get any relief on his salary the rest of the way from an insurance policy? And if he is still out starting next year...does insurance help out?

Always wondered if the injury has to be career ending or if those policies cover season-ending injuries.

Any info would be welcome.

I raised this question at the end of the Peavy thread, but the answer appears to be maybe.

Mods, wouldn't mind a merge to provide this topic its own thread. IMO, this could have a big impact on what the Sox can do by the deadline.

Even though Peavy probably would have had the highest premiums in the MLB, the Sox/Padres would have been fools not to buy any.

Either way, the insurance company could argue that the Sox didn't take the proper steps in preventing his injury. The writing was on the wall with this injury (fluid in his shoulder & not going on the DL), just no one thought it'd be this severe.

'10-$7.5M, '11-$16M, '12-$17M, '13-$4M BO ~ $44.5M
