View Full Version : Q's on a roll

Listening to talking baseball this morning - Jay Hood made an observation about Q and how hot he has been the last month. So I looked it up.

In the 24 games he has played in since June 9, Carlos is.308/.407/.679 with 8 homers and 21 RBIs. The team has gone 23 - 5 in the same period. Obviously the pitching is the number 1 reason for the team's success.

I think Carlos' hot streak is reason 2. He hits tough pitchers, he gets big hits, and he seems to get the two out RBI. And he takes a lot of pressure off PK and Rios.

This is a decent team offensively when Carlos is on top of his game. I like this team's chances if Carlos continues this 2008-like hitting.

This is pretty much how he should hit all the time when he's healthy. I think "hot" for Q is hotter than this.

FIre Walker?:scratch:No, I guess I wasn't clear. I was pointing out the inconsistency of blaming Walker when guys weren't hitting, but not giving him credit now that a lot of those guys are on a tear.

Quentin's the only guy that's on a "tear". That hardly qualifies as "a lot".

Can we give blame to Walker for Andruw Jones falling off the face of the earth, then?

The offense is still below the other 1st place offenses in the AL. It's the pitching that has risen us from the dead.

If I did the math right, TCQ is hitting .359 with 9 HR and 23 RBI over his last 64 AB(or since June 16th, the 2nd game against PIT).

Whilst it is right that the pitching is reason number one for the recent resurgence, it would be wrong to discount the offense. This is the old "it ain't how many you hit... it's when you hit 'em" adage is true. Just enough offense to win so many games is just fine with me because I get the feeling during the game that when we need the hit or get an opportunity, we're going to capitalize.

I'm very glad Quentin is not getting all of these hits in Charlotte. The good news is that there is still a lot of headroom for this offense to improve.

Pierre, Konerko, and Ramirez have all been pretty good too. Jones has had 5 hits and 6 walks in his last 10. Rios, had a short slump, but is back to "normal" now. And Beckham has been better too.

If Quentin keeps hitting this well, it might be wise to DH him more just to reduce the risk of injury playing the field.

In addition, both Kotsay and Jones are better fielders, so it would be wise to have them platoon in RF to improve the overall team defense.

As far as Jones goes, he hit <.200 for 2008-2009, so what we're getting in 2010 is consistent with those years, or a slight improvement, especially the last week or so.

Please be specific, which of these hitting coach "gurus" of the other 1st place/wild card teams is the "difference maker" who should replace Greg Walker?

Red Sox- Dave Magadan
Yankees- Kevin Long
Rangers- Clint Hurdle
Do you honestly believe that Magadan, Long or Hurdle are the source of success vs. the overall make up of the line up/roster?

Here's an interesting stat:
In a White Sox uniform, Carlos has now hit a total of 76 homers in 1,093 at bats.
That's a homer every 14 at bats, which projects to 40 homers per season.
This year he is right on that same pace of one home run per every 14 at bats.

"Is he back?" He never left. He struggled a little with his average, but he has been driving in runs all year.

The next time he goes into a little funk, could we please not start talking nonsense like "What about trading TCQ for Fukadome?"

"Mercy!"

As a hitter, at his best, I think Carlos Quentin can rival anyone in terms of production in the major leagues. The greatest thing about Carlos is that much of his stuff comes in the clutch and he doesn't fail under the lights like other big names.

People forget how great he was in 2008, and how monster he was for us. He also missed a good 30 games. Now, add a healthy season, and what is a playoff stretch right now, and we will get to see the ascendancy of the White Sox.

The 3-4-5 of this team will make pitchers go crazy. A table setter at the top, a good two (imagine if Beckham gets his swing rolling), and Rios, Paulie, Quentin lining it up after will mess things up for a while.

I am ready, Quentin has unloaded, and a monster is about to become unleashed.

"Sometimes you hit the ball, it goes out of the yard. Sometimes someone catches the ball. Baseball is a very fragile game, it changes in a second and it's always to be respected," Quentin said. "I'm fortunate to get some good pitches to hit and take some good swings and help the team win. I stay with an approach every time and trust it and good things have happened."

This kids a piece of work. Here's to keepin' it up, buddy.
