Not too original.

I thought that "The Cuban Monster" and "the defection connection" for he and Alexei were both really clever. Neither being my idea, just for the record.

I don't think it's Hawk's nickname. I've heard Ozzie and others call him that too.

"The Tank" is a good nickname, it suits him and I think it will catch on. I like "the defection connection" too.

I agree.

Ozzie just called him "the tank" in his post game press conference.

While "The Tank" is somewhat uninspired, I prefer it to hearing Hawk pronounce his first name "Diane."

It's not as original as "Big Hurt", I agree.

I like it...seems to fit.

On a side note...Viciedo is the first player to "remind me of Frank"...since the Big Hurt was called up in 1990....

I had an awesome yellow lab named "Tank", so I'm all for calling Dayan the Tank. :D:

Ozzie coined "The Cuban TanK" and Hawk shortened it to "The Tank". Incidentally, Ozzie originally called him "The Cuban Pimp" based on the Hummer that he showed up in at ST last year.

I also like "The Tank" as a nickname for Viciedo.

My dad now proudly calls Viciedo "El Tanque Cubano" everytime he comes up to bat.

With Tank and Missle, they can just round out the infield by calling Beckham something like "Gunner" and Paulie "The Bomber."

And I could definitely use some ideas... I could even make a freewebs page or something to keep them all in, giving credit to WSI and everything.

The drawing is awesome - I can go with Tank as a nickname.

What amazes me, however, is how well Veciedo is making plays at 3rd. He is playing under control and making accurate throws to the right place in the right situations - if Tank says that - I'm all in.

Hawk can say "Tank you very much" after a clutch play or hit.

Depends on whether you are comparing him to Crede/Ventura or Teahan/J. Fields.

From what I'm seeing he is making the ordinary plays and showing no evidence that his head is not into the game situations.

I'm comparing him to a league-average 3B.

I'm comparing him to a league-average 3B.

That's fair enough - after suffering through a couple of years with Fields and Teahan -Veciedo looks good to me. Certainly - you won't trap me into saying Veciedo is an average major league 3rd basemen after his first 30 innings.

I'm measuring him based on the recent competition and by his arriving reputation and in those measurements Veceido has surprised in a pleasant way.

Other than that- you are my White Sox master. ;)

I like Tanks hands and arm. Not sure of his range, but at least he has two of the three needed elements of a good 3rd baseman, and will be solid at 1st base someday if he moves there.

I love how they showed Bryan Bulaga,Crystal Lake native, huge (in more ways than one) White Sox fan, 1st round pick of the Packers, and Iowa Hawkeye offensive tackle, throwing out the first pitch and Hawk's comment...

''saw him close up today and if Dayan is the tank, Bulaga is the Sherman tank!''....

So true,Hawk...Bulaga is enormous...and a good kid. As Hawk said, hope he does well, cept vs the Bears.

"Sherman Tank"? Surely, Hawk could have done better than that...Sherman Tanks are pretty small. At least in comparison to modern day tanks, anyway.

Sorry, the WWII historian in me nearly had a heart attack. ^_^

Probably should have gone with a Panzer Tank reference ,but anything related to Nazi is politically incorrect..ya know?
