I am currently watching the Angels telecast of the game tonight and the announcers mentioned that Paul Konerko announced that he would participate in the Home Run Derby today.

I haven't read this anywhere else, and with Paulie's history of thumb and back issues, I hope this isn't true.

Has anyone else read or heard this anywhere?

Like I said, I hope this isn't true.

I think you have to be an All Star for that to happen. There's no way Paulie goes just for that.

That's actually not a rule, believe it or not.

Still, I can't imagine he'd blow one of his three days on that.

Couldn't agree more. That's why I asked on here. Although, that's about the last thing I am worried about now. ****.

You only need to look at his 2nd half stats for 2002 to hope this doesn't happen.

The last time he did that, at the 2002 ASG,he fractured his foot, played in pain the rest of the season, and had the worst year of his career in 2003,
so my advice is rest up,the Sox need you healthy in the second half.

And ask Josh Hamilton! He's not doing this anymore he said. Those second half stats following the homer derby.

Doesn't the article just list 6 players? There are 2 spots still undecided.

Yes, but they (had) already filled the four AL slots. Cano dropped out though, so I guess a spot is open now.

Hamilton said he'd do the derby again, but he'd take it easy and not go crazy like he did a couple of years ago.

I'm definitely hoping Paulie doesn't participate in the derby. Another example of the derby messing you up is Bobby Abreu in 2005.
