Cubs rookie forgot to read the scouting report. It's hard to get two fastballs by Paul Konerko. He'll make the adjustment within the at-bat. There's a reason Konerko has 345 career HRs and 1,100 career RBIs. He can hit the ol' No. 1.

Guarding the line paid off in the ninth inning there. Nice DP to end the game.

Well, I sure would like to say yes. But frankly, I'm not sure what we have here. We have a team that played BRUTAL for two months. Now they've played some of the best baseball I've ever seen a Sox team play the last two weeks. This streak is literally unprecedented in my lifetime.

As a fan, I'm loving every minute of this. But when I put my sportswriter's hat on, I think to myself, "A good two weeks doesn't trump a bad two months. I need to see some consistency before I believe in this bunch." (I think most journalists are cynical. We are, after all, paid to question everything.)

All that said, here's why I think they can win the division: This club hasn't lost more than two in a row since April 19. Those clubs that can stay away from long losing streaks usually finish with a winning record and have a shot at postseason play. Yeah, they can win more than 78 for that reason.

After tomorrow, the Sox have 13 games remaining before the All-Star break.

While it would be a letdown from the streak they've had, a 7-6 finish to the first half would still have them in very good shape.

Win 2/3 @ KC
Be satisfied with winning 1/3 @ TEX
Be satisfied with a 2/2 split v. LAA
Win 2/3 v. KC

After the break they have 4 @ MIN, followed by 13 against the A's and M's. Hold serve against the Twins, and then feast on the A's and M's.

I don't know they had two bad months. April was brutal. May was meh. June has been great. Hopefully April was their one bad month this season.

All the games the Sox have in the second half with the Twins (6 home, 7 away) and Tigers (6 home, 8 away) will keep things interesting.

I agree with you, but pitching is something that I have found, IMO is contagious. It's almost a "I don't wanna be the one to **** up" situation right now for the Sox. If our pitching even stays DECENT we will be in contention for the AL Central crown. And being in the hunt is all I can really want, especially with last years season and the way this season started.

Also, 2008 was almost more fun than 2005. ALMOST, but not quite.

My first rhetorical question is why anyone in their right mind would really want to go see this thing. My second is why on God's green Earth does tour need to be for that length and amount of locations?!?!?

Radio only for me today and was reading a book during it so I admit, it was more in the background than it should have been. But not unimportant as every time they tied it up, my heart sank a little. And every time we regained the lead, I did a little happy dance. Then, when Paulie hit his homer and I could hear Farmer and DJ from my kitchen, I couldn't have been happier.

This. Feels. Great. :bandance: :bandance: :bandance:

It's working out well and no need to change right now but is this a potential area of improvement?

Random observations from the game:

Alexei continues to improve and "stabilize" at short.
Beckham looks very solid turning the double play
Vizquel continues to surprise me with his play at 3rd
Thornton seemed VERY pumped as they were high fiving after the game...the team seems to be developing an "edge" and it's personality...with all the new players the chemistry is now coming together.
With the way Santos/Putz/Thornton/Jenks are throwing...it's becoming a 6 inning game for our starters, and with out rotation, this could get very interesting.
I give the manager alot of credit for having this team where it is, when the wheels coulld have come completely off a month or so ago.

No...I asked a direct question...when is Teahen coming back?

...and I'm wondering if a 43 yo vet with limited range can play everyday at a position which is arguably his worst. OV has contributed greatly but what happens when MT returns?

I can't say anything else, this team is awesome. This team is on a roll. We're taking over over the world.

Irrational exuberance. When they do this against the East and the Twins call me. This team still needs a lead-off man and a left-handed DH.
Castro is not a worthy stand-in for AJ. He killed several rallies tonight. And a 253 year-old third baseman cannot be counted on in the long run. Their long relief is still sub-par with Williams, Pena and Linebrink. This area has not been exposed because of the great starting pitching which is the real reason the Sox are winning.

For the Sox to have accomplished what they have would be way more impressive if it had been done against legitimate contenders. The Sox caught a break in the schedule at the same time the Twins are playing a rough stretch of opponents.

This is not 1983.

We've won 15 of 17 games. 5 wins came against the Tigers and Braves. 1 win came when we had to face Strasburg. Heck, we even won the game where we rested Rios AND Konerko. For a team that couldn't even string back to back wins for much of the season, can't you enjoy this a bit? I want another stick in the lineup too but don't let that stop you from enjoying this team's accomplishment.

Just did some research on Konerko for my blog ... 10 of his 19 home runs this season have come in the eighth or ninth innings. Eight of the 10 have been in "late-and-clutch" situations.

Cubs rookie forgot to read the scouting report. It's hard to get two fastballs by Paul Konerko. He'll make the adjustment within the at-bat. There's a reason Konerko has 345 career HRs and 1,100 career RBIs. He can hit the ol' No. 1.

I'm in shock. I'm so freaking floored by what this team has done these past two weeks. Amazing stuff and so cool. Facing another tough pitcher the Sox simply hung on long enough to let PK do that 8th inning thing he likes to do and then slammed the door and strutted off the field.

I don't give two craps about the bp cup. Melt it down and use it for another junkshot as far as I'm concerned, but the 11 in a row on the backs of timely hitting and amazing pitching (just like KW and OG drew it up) is damned cool. I don't care who it's against. I don't notice anyone else doing it and last I checked, the twinkies just got swept by the Brew Crew, hardly a world beater in their own right.

Twins rough stretch included a nice three game set with a "bad" brewers team.....and they were swept? I will agree with you that Pitt and the Nationals are weak teams, especially Pitt, but its tough to sweep in this game....so sweeping both of those series? Impressive, heck I would have tipped the cap at 5-1

Are the Cubs a good team this year? no, but we all know that for these series you can throw out the records, players get up for these games....so to take at least 4, solid

We faced a very good Braves team, and faced their top three arms, sweeping that series to me was VERY Impressive, I was aiming to get 2 of those games......that was an awesome series for us

Castro? yeah, not a great player how many teams have an incredible back up catcher on the roster?

Pena has been good for us this season, we do need an upgrade with Williams, and Linestink is dangerous, but overall I will take our pen.....we have great arms in santos, thornton, putz, Jenks and a solid pena I will take this pen

dont forget the series win vs the Tigers dont forget that we split a series on the road in Tampa during the "dark times" we played well vs the Yankees except for the final game where we got smoked IIRC......

This streak is impressive

My plane landed at Midway at 9:20p, well after the Sox secured victory number eleven. I can only hope they continue on this streak because I'd rather not be blamed for a loss tomorrow.

The funny thing of this whole situation is the Sox were winless when I was in South Carolina during the first week of the season, and I immediately prepared myself for a ten game losing streak from June 16-26. I'm very glad to have been wrong!

Well then, it is settled. No more South Carolina trips for you.

Many of us gave up on this team in the first week of June. I think the only one who didn't was Ozzie.

Not so my friend. I can say 100% truthfully that I never given up on this team. Even during the really rough times and many on here thought I was delusional, I'm proud of that.

I didn't come close to giving up. It was May! Too many players were too far below their lowest possible expectations.... it simply HAD to improve. Now, I didn't expect the Twins to be so helpful so soon. I never felt the team was fundamentally flawed anyway (although a little bat-shy) but that everyone had to pull on the same rope.

If you take it day by day and game by game you have a better chance of keeping a steady hand. I think KW will come up with a tweak. Bottom line is that we have to keep playing solid baseball offensively and defensively and the starters have to keep it going.

I actually believe that even the people that were screaming to blow the team up, never really gave up .. down deep inside they were praying for a miracle and it appears that we got one .. i never really gave up for selfish reasons .. i just can't .. i need baseball .. White Sox baseball . WINNING White Sox baseball .. let's all just remember this time when things are not going so well .. anyway, we're in a pennant race .. life is good :)

Just in case you want to get your hands on the Cup: http://www.bpcrosstowncup.com/tour.php

So today, Sunday June 27, the day after the historic clinching game its way out in the thriving metropolis of Davis Junction IL. I hope its back in time for the ticker-tape parade.

Seriously, though, I've been to that particular BP in Davis Junction many times. Maybe I'll drive out there and see what's up with it....

Paulie Paulie Paulie. I love that sound. To think, there are people who want to get rid of him after all he's done and all he continues to do for the Sox.

Please. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, this place was Home Fish Interactive in April and May. All the Droopy Dawgs and Gloomy Guses were wrong when they said the season was over in May. They all thought they were better baseball experts than Ozzie and Kenny.

Some of them have manned up and eaten their crow. Some of them still can't be happy with an 11 game win streak and meaningful baseball being played on the South Side. The longer this streak goes, and the longer the Sox contend, the more pathetic they look. Which is just fine with me.

I kept saying that this team has a lot of talent, especially in the rotation. They are too talented not to compete. Any reference to a good team in the past which started slowly but won the division was met with "but but but, that is different, the 2006 Twins had the MVP, a catcher winning the batting title, Cy Young, etc." To them, the answer was that the Sox weren't talented at all. Anyone rationally saying that sometimes teams have bad Aprils/Mays and rebound was met with a sneering "It's a good think they don't count April loses to the Indians against your record." Maybe these idiots will remember this the next time a team starts slow. The season isn't over in April or May. And nobody was saying "the Sox are going to win the World Series for certain" when they argued that maybe we shouldn't have pulled the plug on the season after week 3.

The meltdown was due to the fact that defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory once again. A common occurrence with this team, yet I still just can't get completely used to it. And for some of us who despise the Cubs, a sweep would have been a highlight of an otherwise disastrous season. But it's something we'll just have to learn to live with, I guess.

Right on with this Dick... Good old time baseball pitchers duel.. we hang in there, put ducks on the pond, and cant get anything past the infield.. :angry:Infuriating..YES !!!! You shake your head knowing that these guys have the capacity to place the ball anywhere on the field and are paid to do this because of their so called professional status...To watch them display the fundamental acumen of little leaguers in situations is maddening.

No sweep, but still hanging around the Central...Who knows, 3 weeks of red hot baseball and they can still sit in the catbird seat..

Here it was a month ago.... Baseball is and forever will be a season of steaks above and below the Mendoza Line...This is a competitive team in a division they should always be in the hunt for... This season now hinges on winning out each series, 2 outa 3..3 outa 4 and this team will be playing in October.. Props to them that they hit stride at the right time and turned an ugly spring around.. Twinkies now have gulped and forever will be looking over their shoulders with no margin for error... Sox play smart baseball from here on out an the division is theirs....

1961...it was a very good year :D:

Just finished watching it "as live", great game. I love Thorton but still found myself wishing it was Bobby in the 9th. Beckham showing some signs of recovery these past couple of games; I can see him and Alexei carrying the club offensively for a stretch if things click just right.

Likewise. A good watch on a rainy Sunday AM when you were out during the game. Don't like Thornton as closer, but doesn't Putz look great? Alexei, a real shortstop now, finally flashing leather. Paulie turning around 100 MPH and showing some "speed" on the bases.

Those of you with really negative posts at the best time in years: Stop wasting our bandwidth.

I actually read the rant post to my sisters and father's wife all of whom are here in NJ too. None of them are huge sports fans nor do they follow baseball and they all thought it was ridiculous...

Some people would rather be right than see the Sox succeed. Their egos simply won't allow any other possibility.
