I don't give a dead moose's last **** about the Cubs and their circus or the BP Crosstown Cup. I'm just glad to see the Sox continuing their run at the division leaders. First 10-game winning streak in my lifetime, and I'll be 34 years old in a couple weeks. Really enjoying the way the team is playing right now.

Great outing by Peavy... even better to see our two most "lackluster" hitters for the first 2 months of the season - TCQ and Beckham - have great days today!

10 in a row!!!! If you would have told me a month ago this team was going to go on a 10 game streak of any kind, I would have figured it would have been 10 losses in a row... this team continues to amaze me this year! Keep it up boys! Hopefully Sweaty Freddy keeps up the great pitching by our starters tomorrow, hell against the Cubs, I would say the chances are pretty good!

GO SOX! And also, let's go Mets tonight !

Fantastic! Now that Chicago has another Championship and the SOX have not stopped winning since the Hawks won the Cup, the Cubs loveable losers marketing has to be growing thin.

After watching Zambrano implode and blame his teammates for not diving after giving up a 3-run HR to Quentin with 2 strikes, I can't see how anyone, let alone Cub fans, can root for that team. :whiner:

Isn't this Peavy's second start since he was replaced by Hudson because of a dead arm? Game 2 and 16 scoreless innings, I believe.

I just got home. It was my first Cubs-Sox game, and will definitely be the last. People kept telling me how ****ty this series was, but I wanted to see for myself. It's a tough call as to which was worse - the woman in front of me yelling obscenities at the beer vendor, a guy asking the woman sitting next to me how much she was "going for," or the group of Cub fans in front of me who literally got out of their seats every five minutes. Oh, well. Now I know that while this series is fun to watch on TV, it's not something I really want to experience in person again.

Anyway, on to the good stuff - I had no idea why big Z was tossed, but apparently he had words with DLee? DLee, who's known as one of the nicer guys on the team? Hilarious. I do hope they got his tantrum on tape, I definitely want to see it. This game was definitely over in the first. Peavy had a great game, I wish we'd been able to give him a proper sendoff.

10 in a row. The Sox have made a believer out of me. It's gotten so that I'm just waiting, dreading for that other shoe to drop. But it hasn't happened yet, and I hope we sweep these guys.

2) Nix was already claimed off waivers by the Indians

I still think Zambrano can use a change of team colors.

A franchise he can actually respect.

Put him in a Yankee uniform and he would be fine.

Even here with the Sox and Ozzie, I think he would do fine.

Nothing more would kill Cub Nation than to see Big Z succeed on the South Side. I have a feeling he would.

Getting away from the Cubs may be what he needs. That organization has ruined many players and managers.

Not saying Zambrano is justified in any way for his behavior today, but being with the Cubs for that long could not be good for him.

And I still like the way he kicked Barrett's ass!

I'd do that deal in the offseason, but I would hesitate to bring him in now and risk disrupting this team's chemistry since they went on this run. Plus Freddy is better than Z right now anyway.

Anyway we are just talking through our hats because there's no way any of this happens.

I like the title of the thread, but I was expecting to see something like "Sox make Cubs mind their P's and Q's".

Since I picked up Q in my fantasy team, he's hit 3 HRs, 6 RBIs, batted .500, and slugged 1.750.

It's a shame the rest of my team blows.

Just got back from the game. Series certainly had more sizzle than Hawks crazy Wrigley 2 weeks ago. Sox fans were understandably more jacked up after 9 straight. The swings on the Cubs hitters today told the story about what kind of stuff Peavy was featuring. VERY UGLY swings from the entire Cub lineup.

Amusing to note that 75% of the Cubs "fans" in my section didn't realize Z was out of the game in the 2nd inning. They finally caught on later. Anyway, Sox are hotter than donut grease and I couldn't be happier! Time to count to TEN:

Longest in team history is 19, set in 1906.

Longest in baseball history is 21 by the '35 Cubs.

If you count 19 for the Sox, which includes an embedded tie, then you should give the longest in baseball history to the 1916 NY Giants (http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYG/1916-schedule-scores.shtml), who got 26 in a row with an embedded tie, starting Sep 7 of that year.

They shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence.

Yeah, I really saw how this series brought out the morons, and it was definitely Sox fans as well as Cubs fans. Though, only the Cubs fans in my section were getting up constantly, not paying very close attention, and not even noticing when Z was pulled.

I can only imagine how the fans are when it's Sox-Cubs at Wrigley. Now that's something I definitely won't be trying.

Prior to this year, Zambrano has been fairly good to very good for eight consecutive seasons. This year, he has one horrible start to begin the season followed three solid starts in which he allows 8 ER in 18 innings and then for some crazy reason he gets tossed in the bullpen. What the hell was Sweet Lou thinking? You can't **** with the head of someone like Zambrano and then expect results. I guarantee you if Zambrano is in a different situation next year he'll be back to his old form.

1) Zambrano was completely average after his season opener.

2) His velocity has dropped 4-6 mph.

In addition to the hot-headed stuff, I think Z's skills are in decline. That stuff he's featuring right now isn't going to get big-league hitters out consistently regardless of what uniform he's wearing.

Talking good sense there, what I expect from JB98. He's not the same pitcher and I don't want him here for no money or any money. Does he have a future as a DH?

I have been saying the same thing every time they win, and there is no point of me saying the same thing. This team is playing out of its mind, and they are going to win this thing. Happy to see tbe White Sox awaken. Things are going to be great for the White Sox the rest of the way.

Quentin is erupting, and this pitching staff is blazing. Beckham might be getting int oa groove too, and tha tmeans this team is complete. Imagine that nightmare for the opposition.

Ah, yes. . .I was there today, and what a sweet day it was!

I was with an old friend I've known since childhood. He's always been a Cub fan and I've always been a Sox fan, but we're both baseball fans. He's realistic and told me that today's game is a microcosm of the Cubs' season: erratic pitching, weak-swinging hitters, and no energy (except for the psychopathic Zambrano). We've both been through tough years (hell, decades) with our teams and I know how he feels.

We couldn't understand why Zambrano didn't come back in the second inning, not knowing about the dugout melodrama until we listened to Rongey's radio show after the game. What an ass.

I've been going to these games since interleague play began, and my Cub-fan friend has been with me most of those years. And I'm sorry GoGoCrede had to put up with bad behavior from drunken louts, but there always seems to be a higher concentration of dolts at these games.

Actually, in my experience this year was rather tame as compared with previous years -- I've seen real brawls that spilled over several rows in the upper deck between some of these fools. I was guessing that since the Cubs are so gloriously bad this year there's not as much passion among their cultists, reducing their truculence level. It's a good theory, anyway.

But how about Peavy? And TCQ? And Glorious Gordon? And the bullpen?

How 'bout them Sox, huh? :bandance:

Since I departed the U.S. for the sauna known as Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Sox have only lost one game: the Gavin Floyd-Ted Lilly game at Wrigley Field. Since then, they'll been smoking-hot. It seems like they've got something figured out, doesn't it?

It's good to see the pitching staff operate like was promised, and it's even better that Quentin is starting to heat up.

I can't wait to check the scores in the morning when I wake up, although it's too bad that I have to watch the condensed games vs. watching them live (due to the time zone changes). Winning is always nice, even in the highlights!

Not only is it an elimination game for the BP Cup, but it's probably the most loopsided pitching matchup. Silva is having an incredible season and he is up against our #5 starter Freddy Garcia, whose ERA is 2 numbers higher.

But it hasn't happened yet, and I hope we sweep these guys.I was there as well today, Section 107 was full of crazy fans. I've been to a few Sox/cubs games, including a few at Wrigley, and they are not for the faint of heart. I'm not a fan of big crowds anyway (given that I am a Sox fan, that usually is not a big problem ).

Anyway, crazy fans couldn't put a damper on today's game. I enjoy winning and winning 10 games in a row is just indescribably fantastic. The Zambrano meltdown was a bonus and just when I didn't think the day could get any better, the Twins and Tigers lost. I will cherish this day forever.

Nope ain't gonna do it look at the splits vs the starters for the other teams...

Silva is 4-11 vs sox during his career with a 5.33 ERA.

Garcia is 4-0 with a 1.25 ERA vs the cubbies

Silva has lost his last 2 games (one of them against the sox) and

Garcia has won his last 5 games.

The sox are on FIRE and the Cubs just destroyed their bullpen over the past two days, and had their "ace" blow up on the team, plus they just aren't doing well right now. Anything can happen, but I'm liking our odds more than the cubbies.

the Cubs just destroyed their bullpen over the past two days

We did NOT make them go through a lot of relievers on Friday, and as for the relievers that did pitch, we didn't make them work hard at all. Meanwhile the rest of the Cubs bullpen has had an entire day to rest from the 13-inning game.

The Cubs bullpen will be ready to go and protect Silva's lead, should he get one.

As for Freddie, he is clearly pitching at a level above and beyond what his diminished skills can support over a long period of time. He will fall back to Earth soon; this is as certain as the revolution of the heavenly spheres around the Sun.

Minneapolis Tribune writer did note the White Sox: "The Twins' woeful week has enabled the Chicago White Sox to surge back into the race. By late Friday night, only 1 1/2 games separated the first three teams in the AL Central, and it's hard not to admire the way the Sox have bounced back from an early season slump that led to General Manager Kenny Williams treatening his players". http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/97206869.html

I agree that on paper,Silva has the edge tonite. Now, he has a gimpy hammy,so maybe Juan and Omar can bunt him a la,David Wells and get under his skin. Barring that, the Sox are going to have to find a way to squeeze out at least 4-5 runs tonite, because,Freddy does give up some runs. Now, the Sox seem to score for Freddy also..so that is good.

The only reliever I do not want to see from the Cubs is Marmol. If he is in the game, Sox are probably going to lose. He has been untouchable of late. So, while their bullpen might not be too stretched, it still sucks, basically, outside of Marmol and Marshall.

What I do like about the matchup is that Carlos is hot,and a great low ball hitter, and that is Silva's game.

As for Chigirl...please do not return, until we lose a game..screw your job!

I think that we have the edge here. Over his major league career. Freddy Garcia has just owned the Cubs up, down, and sideways. No two ways about it. He's, what, 4-0 with a 1.25 ERA lifetime?

What. An. Idiot. I would like to express my appreciation right now for Mark Buehrle.

I'm always reminded of Game 2 of the World Series, when Jenks gave up the two runs in the 9th and thus cost Mark Buehrle the win.... Yet Mark was there at the top of the steps to greet Jenks with a big smile and pat on the head after he was yanked. Bobby was so upset he looked like he was about to cry! The next day I remarked to a Cub fan friend that if it was Mark Prior in there instead of Mark Buehrle, the angry cold stare and the silent treatment would have driven Jenks to go jump off a bridge somewhere.

I wonder what Zambozo would have done? Probably would have slugged Jenks just like he did Barrett. What a jerk.

TomBradley72

I'd like to express my appreciation for Ozzie. "Dramatic tantrums" are an annual event with the Cubs...players allowing their emotions to overcome their poise and completely losing it. From Moises Alou in 2003 to yesterday's incident, it's a pattern with the Cubs.

While we've had some drama/controversy surrounding Ozzie during his tenure, any "drama" with/among the players has been almost non-existent. I'll give Ozzie credit for the way he manages a clubhouse and KW for the types of players he brings in.

We go as our pitching goes, keep it up the 5 of you.Pitching is what's driving the winning streak right now. Although I'm happy about it, I don't know how we've manged to win 10 in a row with the batters we have. Yesterday, six of our nine batters were batting .250 or below, compared to only two of the cubs hitters who were below .250 (Yes, I know we shut them out and we scored six runs. Life is strange).

However, if we want to compete with the Twins and Tiggers, we can't do it on pitching alone. We need another bat and our batters need to improve drastically.

Pitching is what's driving the winning streak right now.

If anyone thinks the pitching matchup favors the Cubs, they should call Vegas and get some money down. The Sox are a -125 favorite.

Well we would be favored any matchup you want to throw out there with the streak and being at home.

Huge test for this team on Saturday night.

Not only is it an elimination game for the BP Cup, but it's probably the most loopsided pitching matchup. Silva is having an incredible season and he is up against our #5 starter Freddy Garcia, whose ERA is 2 numbers higher.

If you want to bet on the streak ending, bet on it ending Saturday.

....or maybe not. :D:

Garcia's season thus far is a text book example illustrating why ERA doesn't tell the whole story. Freddy's had two starts that were horrible, two not so good and nine that were good, effective starts. I'd rather have Freddy than someone who is mediocre most of the time and has a few good starts mixed in, even though the other guy might look better on paper.

Make that 10 good starts for Garcia.

His record is pretty accurate this year. He's pitched us to 8 wins and 3 losses, more or less. He pitched us to a win tonight, even though he didn't pick it up this time.

By the way, Carlton Fisk threw out the first pitch at his game. He was greeted with thunderous applause. I like to think it was a good omen.

Watching the replay ... never realized how much Rios flies down the first base line. Routine plays he's just a step or two out.

What is wrong with you? He's HomeFish. This is his schtick. It's what defines him.
