These two guys have pretty much carried the offense for most of the season. Both of them are having MVP-type seasons. I cannot remember the last time two Sox position players started the All Star game, so let's do our part to try to make it happen!

The '06 All Star Game, maybe? :P

No Sox position players started the 2006 game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game).

Really? I seem to remember a glut of them going to an All Star Game not so long ago. What year was that, then? :?:

A lot of them went and played in the game, but none started the game.

Missed that slight, yet so important detail...

You put starters in based on fan voting, and you see nothing but Yankees and Red Sox players. The average baseball fan isn't that smart.

Same thing in '05... a bunch went (Pods, Konerko, Garland), and Buehrle started the game, but no position players did.

Not since Frank was in his prime have the Sox had a position player start in the All-Star game. Fan voting tends to have its drawbacks, and this is one of them.

Not gonna happen.

I just assume none of the Sox even play in the ASG, as long as the AL wins... Keep the boys healthy and get the home field advantage.

just did my maximum 25 votes. Let's do this!

This seems like a lost cause. Too many idiots out there voting for Curtis Granderson or something ridiculous. I've still voted a couple times online this year, but it was such a clunky process that I left it at that. I can't see myself voting 25 times unless the process is a lot simpler. What do you all use to vote?

If we can get those million+ votes needed in days for the 26th man, I always wondered why we can't get someone in the game when you can vote for months.

All I did was vote on the MLB site, then it asks "vote again" which I clicked on and it saved my whole vote. I merely had to enter the validation code each time....not real hard, took about 10 minutes total.

Oh. Well when I did it it didn't save my votes so I said screw it. Maybe somethings up with my browser.

Our fan base is passionate but not broad, at least relative to NYY/NYM/BOS/CHC/LAA/LAD. That's just the way it is. Frankly, I prefer it that way. But what it means is we can get the votes when the sample size is small (~1 million votes) but not when it's large. We just don't have the numbers, and the national media doesn't do us any favors.

Smaller markets can get guys elected if they are truly breakthrough players (i.e. Joe Mauer, Ryan Braun), but Rios and Konerko, fairly or unfairly, just don't have that kind of cache nationally.

Got in ten votes, I'll probably get some more in tomorrow while I'm supposed to be working. :redneck

I voted for Paulie & Rios because they deserve to start. It won't happen, but it's our duty as a die hard fans to try and make it happen.

according to mbl.com Morneau is currently leading the 1b slot for the AL All Star team, I'd hate to see that spot get taken away from Konerko for a lowly twinkie...

Me too. I hope that both Paulie and Alex are selected. Not sure if my 25 votes will matter much, but hey, I did my duty.

Thanks for the reminder, Sox fans on WSI!

Have you ever seen Morneau play:?:

He's pretty damn good you know.

This is true, but I am a totally bias sox fan and therefore hate to see anything given to the twins over the white sox. Loyalties aside, Morneau is pretty damn good

Lowly? Good as Paulie has been, Morneau (and Cabrera, for that matter) are miles ahead. Sometimes you just gotta tip your hat, as the captain likes to say.

It will all depend on whether Girardi takes Tex or not. Morneau and Miggy will be there and I would say Paulie is third in line. But hey Youk has just as strong a case as PK.

Rios will definitely be there.

Lol at them getting voted in though.
