14-9 3.96era 1.34whip in 2009 isn't exactly awful. He was also a 20 year old rookie.

This season you can say he has been awful.

Agreed. He must have the same "sophomore virus" that Gordon Beckham contracted. I wonder what it is about rookies who do well and then struggle their second year? Porcello is still very young though. He still has plenty of time to bounce back.

Part of it could be that their opponents have had an entire offseason to study them. While I think teams have a lot of tools at their disposal, the one tool they don't have is a great deal of time to analyze footage as deeply as they can in the offseason. Thinking of the team I work with, there is probably 10 to 20 times the hours set aside to watch game footage of the last year as we can during the season.

I assume you mean 2010 and not 2009

Another question here is why are the Sox hesistant to send Beckham down

He's been just as bad as Porcello this season

What better options do they really have to play there? Vizquel and viciedo at 3b? Nix no longer with the team they really have no other options.

Not worried...... yet.

His sinker's not sinking. He didn't get a lot of strikeouts in his brief time in the minors so he relied on the groundballs induced by that pitch. he's still very young and really last year he left them no choice but to bring him up seeing how well he pitched in camp and through the year.

But he was drafted in 2008 out of high school. That's why I'm not worried yet.
