Pretending like the amazing turn around isn't going to be happening this year... I say next year or the year after. This pitching staff isn't this bad, and neither is Beckham. I think next year everyone will be more comfortable, settle in... and hit closer to career averages instead of like minor leaguers.

What are next week's Lottery numbers? 2007, the Sox stink up the joint. 2008, they win the division. It is impossible to say they absolutely cannot make it this year and nobody knows what next year will look like.

As soon as the minor league system starts turning out some home grown talent.

I put down 3-4 years. I don't see it happening for 2011 at this point because of our lack of minor league players who look like they'll be ready by next season and the amount of salary still tied up in 2011 for declining or mediocre players.

This is very disappointing to me because this is the first time in probably more than a decade that I thought this early in a season that the Sox aren't going to compete next year either.

Maybe deep pink , but how could anyone think anything I ever say should be posted in teal. I'm so sincere...

I don't use it, but in NOCAL there's tons...

I could see anywhere from 1 to 4 years. Look at what the Tigers did in the off-season with trading Edwin Jackson and Granderson. They received some pieces that are contributing now, and will continue to do so in the near future. They don't look like world beaters currently, but they aren't as terrible as some predicted. I don't think they are going to continue battling for the division crown this year, but they aren't that far off.

I can see Kenny making some similar moves to bring in some young talent, while at the same time shedding payroll. Selling high on Thornton would be a great start. I also wouldn't be surprised if Danks is moved for a huge bounty. Everyone is advocating the dumping of the high priced veterans, but that won't do much except save money.

Sounds more like expensive reefer to me. Some of that bubonic or something.

When does Joe Mauer's contract with the Twins expire?

Part of the problem we have is that the Twins, Tigers, and Indians all have a nice set of young talent.

We probably won't be able to get by with sneaking into the playoffs with a so-so team over the next few years.

If Danks and Floyd turn in great pitching seasons in tandem and someone like Quentin steps up to what we know he's capable of, it can happen real quick. If we have a bunch of guys continue to hit .220 to .240 or worse, we're in trouble.

There's much work to do before playoffs become reality.
