Only if they take Teahen's contract and pay the difference in salary this year.

Pass. Lowell isn't bringing this team into contention. They are in no position to be buyers. Especially of mediocre aging players.

Agreed!

He is just another overpaid guy on the downside...

Mike Lowell, how can we lose?! Low-risk, high upside! Lightning in a bottle! Misused/overused buzzword! 2010's version of 2009 Mark Kotsay! Hopefully we trade for him and extend him as bench player, and then let Ozzie use him as a starter in 2011!

That .239 AVG looks awesome compared to Quentin. Trading for Lowell would be a mistake, because I honestly don't see how this team can come back this year. Any moves made should be for making the team better for next year, IMO. I'm not talking fire sale, but similar to the Rios deal last year.

Lowell is on record saying he's retiring after the season.

Dear God, please no.

Lowell is 36. He is the exact opposite of what this team needs right now. We need YOUNG ballplayers with solid fundamentals.

You can't simply acquire those types of players because you need them. They are a rare commodity.

You aren't trading for those players. You are making them in your minors. We don't do that.

Lowell + $7M cash to the White Sox, AJ + $4M cash to the Rangers, Max Ramirez to the Red Sox. Jurikson Profar, Wilmer Font to the White Sox.

The Red Sox get rid of Lowell to a team that probably won't come back and bite them, and still get Ramirez whom they were going to trade for earlier this year.

The Rangers pick up a good C with playoff experience, stay payroll neutral.

The White Sox cut net payroll adding Lowell with the cash, who will play 3rd and 1B for this year, pick up two decent prospects in Profar (potential 5 tool SS) and Font (Potential closer with big fastball). They can bring up Flowers to play 60% C duties with Castro getting the rest of starts. Get er done!!!

If Herbert Perry could make a difference in 2000...maybe Lowell can help this year....better option than Teahen/Vizquel/Nix/Lillibridge...the pile of **** KW has come up with to cover 3rd base.

True, but that still doesn't make trading for the 36 year-old declining Mike Lowell a good idea.

Unless we find a way to get rid of Teahen or some other players in this trade, adding another aging veteran to the club just doesn't make sense to me.

If we gave up nothing and the Red Sox paid for him, why not? I don't understand why people get so worked up over stuff like this. Lowell is a + defender through his career and has a little pop in his bat. He hit 17HRs, 75RBI, and 29 doubles just last year. It's not like we have a hot shot 3B prospect that would be denied playing time. For crissakes, we are going to be running out 43 year old Omar Vizquel to 3B for the next 4 weeks! If Lowell sucks, you release him. At WORST, Lowell would be a band aid until Teahen came back and would likely do no worse than Vizquel. I also realize this is a small sample size, but Lowell is a career .373 hitter at US Cellular Field with an OPS of over 1.005.

If that was the case, agreed. But I wouldn't even give up an A-ball guy for him. There's really no point given the state of the team. We should be getting rid of the old guys, not acquiring them.

I'd roll the dice on trading a fringe prospect for him. I just hate giving up on a season in June with 100 games to play and historically, so does Kenny Williams. I realize the chances of the Sox getting back in this thing are slim but it would be nice to see the team add a player now in an attempt to salvage something. You can always dump Mike Lowell and others two months from now on July 31st and recover prospects if we are still 8 to 10 games out then. I'm just shuddering at the thought of 4 straight weeks (or more) of Vizquel every day.

He'd make up for Teahen's absence, but otherwise, this is nothing to get too excited about. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me if he someone found his way over here.

They have gotten remarkably better compared to thier old days. Its a solid site that makes finding articles and discovering one you normally wouldn't have much much easier.

Have you taken a close look at our farm system lately. Now that Morel is at AAA, I'd trade the entire Barons roster for Lowell...even if we released him at the All Star break.

That's just the piece that this team lacks...a declining 30+ year old veteran.
