Good news for out of town Sox fans like me if you have DirecTV...

I woke up this morning and flipped through channels on the TV to see that DirecTV has added the national WGN feed to their HD lineup.

I am a pretty big HD snob, so this amounted to pretty major excitement in my house, since the WGN standard def. broadcasts have a poorer picture quality than the pictures of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon in 1969.

Now I can watch the Sox score 2 runs a night to give John Danks a no-decision, but I will be doing it in crystal-clear HD picture-perfect quality!

Awesome!!! I did not notice that. Whenever the Sox were on WGN I would go to the MLB package and play the other teams HD feed.

I have asked Directv several times when they would add WGN in HD but they always said there was no plan for it.

Is this new? I feel like I have had WGN HD for a long time.

I share your excitement... Comcast here in Atlanta just added WGNHD as well! My parents who live in the Atlanta suburbs got it a few months back but we in the city limits of ATL just got it added to our lineup a short time ago. I almost vocalized my excitement, I was so happy.. haha.

This is great! The games didn't look good on WGN compared to a regular game in HD.

A note for Chicagoland Directv owners, if you have an antenna too, you can run it through your DVR and watch WCIU in high def. That way you can take advantage of the DVR functions including recording and still watch the games in high def.

Sounds like too much work.

Finally!
I've got a 70" DLP and Direct's GN feed was SO bad that I would watch games on my old school 27" tube in the bedroom. It was very frustrating seeing the WGNHD logo on the screen and getting a 1960's picture. If only Bob Elson were calling the game....
