Great job by a team that needed a win. Nice to see both AJ and TCQ at or above .200. Baby steps. Good job by Ozzie going to the pen in the 7th. I'd like to see more of that. Got some decent arms, need to use them. Don't know why he's been so adamant about letting the starters pitch into the 7th and 8th so often. He didn't do that as often early in the season in years past and this year it has cost us...

Ah well, for today at least all is well...

Bobby actually just allowed one base hit ... I was sooo nervous watching !!

He did get it together though !!

The time to be nervous was when Santos was pitching with a two-run lead. He certainly made things interesting in his inning. If a one-out single with a four-run lead makes you nervous, I can only imagine how you would have felt seeing Santos load the bases to face Miguel Cabrera with a two-run lead. But Santos got the job done, and Cabrera has to be considered the Tigers' offensive goat today coming up and failing in two situations where he could have done some damage.

Jenks threw strikes. His ratio of strikes to balls was more than 3 to 1. He also struck out two hitters from the top of the Detroit order.

Garcia continues to be a steady pitcher. Aside from Danks, he has been the most consistently good starter in the Sox rotation.

It's nice to see Quentin hitting. It's nice to see Vizquel provide a little bit of offense from the No. 2 spot, although it's just a part-time thing. It's nice to see Pierre continue to spark the offense.

It's nice to win.

Wake me up when they win 7 in a row.

As Bill Melton just said it, every team puts together at least one 7+ game win streak in a season where everything is clicking, save for your 119-loss BAD 2003 Tigers teams, which we are not. It will happen for our Sox. Maybe not now but maybe sooner than later. Hopefully sooner than later. If I had to make a prediction I'd say we'll clean up on the NL part of the schedule coming up soon.

That was a really good win. We had our 5th starter give up two runs over 6 innings, and he gets 4 runs of support. And, then we tack on two more insurance runs for our bullpen.

This is a game that I wish I had DVR'd. :whiner:

Oh, for heaven's sake. I don't know. Because I have a job and a family and about a dozen other things to do besides watch mediocre baseball? I was making a JOKE in response to the request for a seven-game winning streak. Hell, I'd be happy to see mediocre--that is, .500--baseball. I wouldn't have thought .500 too much potential to expect from this squad. Thanks for correcting me!

You don't see how I can interpret "wake me up after a 7 game winning streak as "Johnny Mostil doesn't care unless this team wins 7 in a row".,,

Perhaps a left handed bat with some pop???

Sure it would be nice - but 2 of 3 for a while wouldn't bother me much either. Take 3 of 5 vs LAA and FLA and 4 of 6 @ Cle and Tam...get some rythm going into June.

BTW, June brings a 9 game stretch against the Cubs, the Pirates and the Nationals. It's not impossible that June could be a + month for this club.

I enjoy the game. I don't need teal. I enjoy going to the park, or watching the game, because of what can happen. Sure - sometimes I walk away unhappy with what I saw, but there is no way, and no teal is needed, that I will allow baseball to make me unhappy. I'll stop watching when it gets there. Exactly...I have NEVER said everything is peachy...but I have said that nothing is as bad as some say.

I will turn on each of the next 7 games hoping to enjoy them. I may or may not. They may be good - they may suck. But I'm not going to wait for a 7 game winning streak to be woken up to watch. And I am not going to assume it will suck before knowing it. Sure I am disappointed - the team hasn't done what any of us hoped. But I'm just not going to let it make me miserable. Sometimes the journey is the destination and if you view it that way then when they have a good season and make the playoffs or even go further, you have even more fun. When that's not the case, you still get to enjoy the wins that happen and the details of the games along the way. Like it or not the worst day spent watching baseball is a heck of a lot better than a LOT of alternatives.

And no, before someone suggests it, I'm not saying that losing is acceptable or heaven forbid, lovable, but hey, not like I can do anything about it anyway...

The reason people are so angry is because it's like buying a ticket to the amusement park and then finding out all the rides are turned off. Okay maybe there's a merry-go-round still running, and some people will be content with that, and say, "Hey, a day at the amusement park is better than the alternative." But most of us will be like, "What the heck? This is bogus! I thought this place was supposed to be fun!"

I spent plenty of years watching 140+ games of lousy teams, I've earned my stripes. No more of that for me. I've been on the "journey" many, many times - enough to appreciate the "destination" the next time we get there. :gulp:

Sure and hopefully the Sox will get there again soon and no one's saying that we should be happy with the results thus far this season, but that doesn't mean there isn't still fun to be had between now and October.

In the end, it's your entertainment dollar to spend as you choose, but there are no guarantees in life and especially not in baseball. You bought your tickets, you took your chance. If in the end it's not as entertaining as you want, don't spend those dollars next year, but if you were one of the people who predicted doom and gloom this last winter and still went out and bought a season package, you've got no one to blame but yourself.

if you expected good things then I can understand the frustration, but that kind of works two ways because if you expected good things than you agreed the Sox had done a good job of assembling a team and coaching staff and now that things have gone wrong you are using hindsight to change your mind and thus be angry and frustrated.

It's your money. It's your life. It's your free time. You don't want to watch/pay don't or do and enjoy what you can and hope for the best. You want to enact change, speak with your wallet, it's what businesses understand.

No, he's not. IIRC he also started off badly last year. In 50+ years of rooting for the Sox I can't remember any pitcher similar to Floyd. It seems like his mechanics have to be in perfect sync to get the ball movement he needs. Other pitchers seem to occasionally be able to gut it out when they don't have their good stuff. Anyway, I will hang in there with you on Floyd. He's done it before, he can do it again. Here is where the expertise of a pitching coach would be of great value.

I don't think it's so much "everything is peachy." I think I understand what he was saying, because I'm the same way. I enjoy turning on the game every day, and take each game for what it is. I'm happy when they win, disappointed when they don't. But I don't let it make me angry, and so many people on here are so damned ANGRY about it.

Well, I'm certainly not angry about it, and completely agree there's no use getting angry about it. Maybe I'm just bored with it?

Your mileage, of course, may vary . . .
