I purchased a copy of Madden's book today. There are some interesting passages in it. Of course, considering this is about George, that is an understatement. There are some funny passages about times George and Jerry Reinsdorf had some feuds.

I read Madden's article and he is a good writer. But, seriously, if the Yankees didn't lap the rest of the league with their $800 billion payroll, or whatever it is, would anyone care about George Steinbrenner, the Yankees or their dysfunctional, perpetual soap opera? Steroid cheats (Pettitte, A-Rod, Clemens), convicted felons (Steinbrenner), alcoholic lunatics (the late Billy Martin, as the article shows) immature ballpayers (Swisher), front running jerks (Teixeira, R. Jackson) and almost unimaginably obnoxious fans (Yankee nation) -- why would I ever want to read or hear about any of those idiots?

I can only hope that someone knocks those jerks out in the playoffs. The Sox won't make it and the Twins are hapless against the Yankees. Detroit, L.A. and Boston have knocked them off in the past and could do so again. Having said all that, Tampa Bay is the best bet to do it. I know that I'll be rooting for the Rays when they face the Yankee$ in the ALCS this year.
