After the fifth run scored in Peavy's last start, he just seemed to say 'Enough of this ****, I'm going after hitters now!!'

Jones with another stellar game.

Great win. We need all 3 of these.

Nothing to complain about tonight. This is the Peavy people expected to see. He had a pretty good game on April 17 before he lost it in the eighth in a game lost by the bullpen. Two starts later, he pitched well after the first inning in Texas.

Technically, the game-winning hit (no longer an official statistic) was the Ramirez home run, but the Sox put four other runs together through with the help of some stolen bases and clutch hitting. There was one runner who got to third with less than two out that failed to score, but Peavy was strong enough that the lost run wasn't an issue.

Very much like opening day with the Sox in control on offense and defense. The Sox hit .300 with runners in scoring position, and they a soldid 7 innings from their starter. If we see more of this, whining about the demise of the 2010 White Sox will have been for naught.

Yeah, but you can't dis-credit Peavy's outing because you assume the KC Royals will suck at hitting a baseball next month.

Fact is they don't suck right now, today, by evidence of the 4th highest BA in the league.

Jones has already given us much more in return for what we're paying him (compared to MLB salaries), and it's great to see Peavy throw a solid game tonight. Also glad Rios has started performing after a very rough last season. We're getting a lot more out of him than I expected. Hopefully he continues to produce, as we need his bat to do well.

Awesome thread title.

Just got home a little while ago, and my impulse purchase of tickets to today's game were totally worth it.

Justin Bieber looks tiny in person. Buehrle towered over him. Still, it was nice to see him without actually having to go to one of his concerts.

I knew Peavy wouldn't suck for long! :bandance::bandance:

Some idiot threw Pods' home run ball back, and the wave circled around the damn stadium at least 6 times, which was pretty annoying.

Perfect night for baseball. God, do the Royals ever suck. It was kind of embarrassing to watch after a while.

I think that was the part, where the PA announcer (Gene's replacement) is rambling on all this crap and then doesn't even know the exact date the kid will be with Oprah. It was just too funny, and the music in the background.

What makes these things even a bit more awkward is that it takes place about 15 minutes before 1st pitch and there are probably a very few thousand folks that have just found their seats.

Instead of my usual seats, my buddy had an extra for his seats in 128, row 7 which is just inside the visitor's dugout. When Peavy gave up his second hit of the game, we could clearly hear his f-bomb. Yeah, it was that loud.

I told my friend that Peavy is so tightly wound on gameday, he makes Quentin look laid back and easy going.

Peavy is still good. I was never really worried about him. He found the release point on his slider for the first time all season around the third inning of that game in Texas. That carried over into tonight's start.

The Sox could use a 5-2 or 6-1 homestand against these two opponents. This is a good start.

Royals had quite a mishaps in the field. I felt like we were stealing at will for a while there (speaking of, Rios has become quite the stealer). I'm hoping we can at least win this series and get our confidence back. We need to win games against teams like this. It's put up or shut up time.

It was nice to see AJ get on base a couple of times - though that steel attempt was brutal. A nice surprise homer by Alexie, which I'll take. Juan Pierre still can't hit past the infield... I don't think this is going to change anytime soon with him.

Awesome. We MUST be good!

Who said anything about how good this team is? Peavy dominated. You immediately jumped to the "Kansas City negates any good performance" stereotype, despite the fact that the one thing they're doing well is hit the ball.

You should quit while you're ahead. Or something similar to that.

Did you not read the thread before you posted this?

4th in the AL in batting average.

The he sucks-they suck-we suck school of analysis requires so much less effort.

I don't get the Linebrink thing.
He still throws hard and his stuff moves, but he just sucks.

Another arm to depend on would be nice, but the Sox will not just cut Linebrink and eat that salary. I think he is here for the long run.

It's baffling how his stuff just seems to find the barrel of the bat.

I think he reads that golf book of his too much.

Same as last year. Mid-90's, good movement, has to be the location or tipping pitches.

I think he's been a "miss the plate entirely or throw a meatball" kind of guy for a while now.

Not one comment about Pods' HR? ! ?
It was an EXACT replay of his 2005 game2 walkoff winner.
It even came within a few feet of hitting the SAME SEAT!
I couldn't believe my eyes when watching my Tivo of tonight's game
(Hawks had priority) -thought I was having a flashback.
didn't hear what Hawk & Stoney had to say, because it was the KC feed.
(damm the U!)

I think we can expect this Peavy most of the season.

I hope we can expect this Andruw Jones, too.

He needs to play everyday from now on, rotating DH, platoon, Ozzie bull**** be damned.

It had to be said.

(Regarding Justin Bieber throwing out the first pitch) It's Monday. Are the Ligue's in town?

The one time I hope for a Ligue-incident.

**** me for wanting to see it against a good team. You can extrapolate from one month of luck from Guillen and Podsednik that this team can hit, but outside of Billy Butler they are very much a poor hitting team. Maybe Callaspo.

Peavy pitched well, enter The Dark Clouds...

Again, glad he pitched well, glad his stuff was on, the tape I've seen was encouraging...but I want to see it against a better team, too.

Three posts repeating same has me convinced.

The Sox needed a win last night, regardless of the opponent. Peavy stepped up and pitched very well. I watched the game. Peavy had good velocity and movement. He pitched very, very well. I'm not going to bemoan the opponent. As we all know, all too well, the Royals can give an opposing pitcher a beating on any given night. The Royals are not the Pirates.

I don't know if this has been said already (please excuse me if it has), but it's great to see Peavy's velocity back up to 94-95, instead of 89-90. I assume that he's putting more weight on his left ankle now or something? I can't think of a single reason why else he was throwing so slow and his breaking stuff had no break to it.

How much better can you expect any pitcher to do against any MLB team? Peavy gave up two hits over seven innings. That is not an average outing, it is a great outing, no matter the opponent. It also resembles his effort against Texas after he gave up five runs in the 1st inning. Yes, it would be more impressive if he did it against the Twinkees or NYY, but seven innnings of 2-hit shutout pitching is worth taking note of.

MLB Network interviewed Peavy after the game, and he said he realized he had been favoring the ankle, which prevented him from getting his legs into his pitches. Once he corrected that, he regained his command. Witness his slider last night. It had some serious snap to it.

Yeah, his changeup and slider were absolutely filthy last night. If his recent struggles this year up until this point were simply him favoring that ankle of his, then I'll be expecting major things from him. I mean, if he can bring this stuff every night, we're going to be almost unbeatable when he goes on the mound.

That is, assuming that the offense can back him up on his starts...

Quality of opponent is still an issue. I thought he pitched well, his stuff was great and it was all very, very encouraging.

Great game, but we need a long stretch of winning series. They still seem like the typical near-500 Sox team. One solid game, one terrible loss, one lucky win, one unlucky loss, rinse, repeat...

Hey, maybe I should call Jake a loss machine more often... It seemed to help. :D:
