A few years ago Byrnes was The Guy. He sure crashed and burned.

Would love to see him on the Sox... But it'll probably be Swisher Part II.
He'd be an upgrade over Pierre at LF. :(:

To be fair, he probably recognized the pitch as a ball and therefore saw no need to offer at it.

He exited the stadium on a bicycle?

:rolling: Oh man, I hope there was a video of that. Utterly bizarre.

Byrnes, we hardly knew ye. Maybe they'll let you do your reality show again.

2010 he was hitting .095
2009 he hit .226
2008 he hit .208

He was also injured a lot so basically I think his best days are far far behind him.

Batting average is an over rated stat.

Not really a surprise since organizations tend to put you on a tight leash if you can't bat the weight of a 12 year old. Couple that with not following through on a sign in a crucial situation, you make your way out of town quickly. Byrnes is goofball, but he was always entertaining and thought he played hard but just didn't work out.

Ya.

Who needs to hit the ball?

More of Diamondback failure...they're paying $10M of his salary this year.

Pulling the bat back was a bone headed move, but it looks like the pitch was in the dirt, so would have been tough to bunt anyway, Ichiro was almost safe at the plate since the catcher had to handle a pitch in the dirt.

He's the poster child for "false hustle", but had a few good years with Arizona.

That Mariner's GM Jeff Z. lost some credibility rebuilding the M's by even inviting this guy to spring training...

Was that a pun on his name? If so, well done.

Byrnes is joining up with his buddies on a California beer league softball team. Good times.

Is it me; or does Byrnes come across as a spoiled obnoxious punk?

It's just you. Just because someone is from California doesn't make them a spoiled punk.

I have always thought he has some toolish qualities to him.

I had no idea where he's from. He just carries himself as a pompous "I'm a real baseball player, worship me" jerk.

And now; he's a softball player.

I believe the phrase is "pride goeth before a fall."

The Mariner's are a complete mess up there.

I think his batting average is up now. He hit two home runs yesterday.

Is that 12-inch softball?

Pfft. Anybody should be able to hit one of those balls 300 feet minimum.
