5 yrs, 125 mil. Possible 6th year which would make it 138 mil.

Good for them. I'm glad the Yankees won't have a chance to steal him for a few more years...

I don't blame them for doing what they have to in order to keep their title window open, but he'll be 36 at the end of the contract. That's a lot of money to be paying someone in their mid-30s. Maybe he'll be one of the few who can still be productive at that age.

On a side note, where does this put Pujols contract value? 30M/year?

Good for him.

He and his agent realized that he was going on the market at the same time as Pujols, Adrian Gonzalez, Fiedler, Carlos Pena, Derrick Lee, Paul Konerko, Adam Dunn in the next year or two. I'm not saying some of those can hold a candle to Howard, but they are all power hitting 1B.

And the Yankees have Texiera locked up for 7 years, so they are out of the bidding war which will leave only a couple other teams that will shell out mega bucks.

I'm one who thinks Howard might be too heavy by year 3 of that contract.

He would have been better served for the AL IMO.

Also, his strike outs are way too high for me.

I agree. I think he will start to decline pretty quickly.

What an idiotic contract. Have fun when Howard is 35.

This will make it pretty hard for Milwaukee to retain Fielder unless he takes big discount.

Well, I don't think he is worth THAT kind of money, but he is a solid player and one of the best bats in the NL.

I don't think he's worth that much money, either, but if you're suggesting that he has a weight problem, then you haven't been paying attention. He's lost more than 30 pounds over the past two seasons, and is in the best shape of his career now.

I don't like the years or the money in this deal. Somewhere in the area of 4/75 with an option for a fifth should have sufficed.

Ryan Howard can play on my team any day. He's really gotten better with the D.
