Many of the White Sox players were at the Hawks game, wearing Blackhawks jerseys, with their respective numbers on them. AJ was wearing #12, Konerko #14, Jake Peavy #44.

Beckham was wearing #6. I know that was his number at Georgia. Hopefully he doesnt change.

Yeah, I saw them. I don't think they should be having fun until they've atoned for today's game.

Yes, until after they've thought about what they've done

Nevertheless, I think that's really cool. It's nice to see the Chicago athletes supporting their fellow teams.

So as soon as he can... he going to be making the switch to #6 I take it? That's some real dedication to a number to not wear your actual one... :?:

He's not going to be able to.

Oops spelled his name wrong in the title and I can't change it.

No worries, fixed.

One of the questions he was asked was 'How does the UC differ from all of the stadiums you've played in?" and I was really hoping he'd respond by saying "I've never played baseball on a field with an ice rink on it."

#6 is unofficially retired ... which IMHO is sorta bogus. Do it and honor the guy or don't.

I think we broke most of them when we retired #3 for Harold while he was still playing.

There aren't any rules from MLB it's up to each individual franchise. I think St. Louis had a number retired for their owner, probably other teams have done stuff like this. Heck, the Tigers have Cobbs # retired, and he never wore a #! =)

Can you for someone who was only a hitting coach for your team? Is their any rules on retiring numbers? :?: There are no rules on it. I believe the Angels and Cardinals both have numbers retired for past owners. As for the #6 thing, its lame as hell. Either retire the number or don't. Not issuing it and not telling anyone why is isn't issued it stupid. If Lau is deserving of such an honor, put his face on the wall. It is kinda silly for a franchise that accomplished so little over the past 90 years to have so many retired numbers to begin with. Retiring numbers for hitting coaches doesn't help.

Reinsdorf should give the kid 6.

When they were interviewing Beckham I also noticed that Danks, Nix, and Donny Lucy were there as well as Peavy and the others mentioned.

He better not switch to 6. I already spent $200 on an authentic jersey with 15.

What bothers me is that he was on the Sox hitting coach for a year. Still a great hitting coach though.

Charlie Lau was well liked in the clubhouse and in the organization. He passed away from cancer in the offseason between 1983 and 1984. Thus, the reason for unofficially retiring #6. It's been over 25 years and they haven't given out that number so I see no reason Beckham will be able to get it. Rest easy #15 Beckham jersey owners.

Thats a nice gesture, but very few people even know about it. I think they could do something around USCF (plaque, name on a flag, etc.) to bring his story to light and finally release the number.

Damn, why did the Cubs get the red sweaters for game 1 and the Sox get stuck with the white ones for game 2? ***? Damn McDonough, that makes it look like the Cubs are the HOME team when in fact there are 2 baseball teams in Chicago.

Beckham was on the radio today and said he has 2 Hawks jerseys already with 15, so he got a 6 for this new one when offered. He said he has no intention to switch numbers.

When they showed AJ sitting there during the game, he honestly looked down in the dumps and/or bored. It might've just been projection on my part, though.

I think it's Donny Lucy. I was scratching my head, too. I guess I don't know our 40-man roster as well as I thought.

Don't worry...I wasn't able to tell who he was either...I knew who everyone else was, and the fact that his number isn't visible doesn't help.

I think I'd be depressed coming home after a horrible road trip. I'd like to know what was said by the coaching staff on that plane ride home (especially Ozzie).

Probably nothing since he went to Miami for the day off.

He was going to see his kid play baseball. I seem to be in the minority on this, but I don't necessarily begrudge him going to see his son play and being excited about it. It's not as though he skipped a game to do so. I'm not necessarily happy with the way he's managing, but I don't see what the fuss is over this.

between Danks and Peavy is Donny Lucy .

I met him at S.T. and he was extremely nice.
He signed every hat , ball , picture , note card etc.

He really made many children very happy !
He was the last one to get back to the clubhouse after the game ---

I think he was extremely happy at that time w the prospect of making the team (well at least for awhile )--

Honestly - Cowley was on Fox last night and he looks like he'd be closely related to Konerko. Like his younger brother or cousin or something.
