View Full Version : Uniforms You Wish They Would Bring Back in MLB

I always like catching the highlights during the first week of the season to catch up on any new uniforms, tweaks, etc. With that, what uniforms do you wish other teams would bring back? My list:

1.) Toronto Blue Jays - They need to get rid of the black and get back to that great logo they had when they first entered the league. Perhaps modernize the uniforms to have the logo on the upper chest, vs. the center of a pull-over jersey, however get back to the original color scheme.

2.) New York Mets - Again, get rid of the black. I would like to see them get back to the Tom Seaver era uniforms of the late 60s/early 70s.

3.) Oakland Athletics - I would like to see the "A's" logo make a comeback similar to the uniforms Ricky Henderson wore in the mid to late 80s. I like the button down, etc., however the altneratives should say "A's". Perhaps Yellow or Green versions.

4.) Chicago Cubs - Yep, I hate their current road uniforms. I would like to see them bring back the late 60s version of their road uniforms.

5.) L.A. Angels - I miss the Blue/Red Rod Carew era uniforms. I never warmed up to the all red look. Definitely better than their powder blue "Angels in the Outfield" look however.

I don't recall the Angels ever wearing powder blue. I like their current uniforms though. I agree with all of your proposed changes, though I don't mind the Cubs so much. I'd like to see the Red Sox get rid of their red alternate jersey.

I'll never understand why the Red Sox changed to those ugly blue-on-gray road unis. That's even the logo on top of the visitors dugout at Fenway now.

The Angles had more of a pinstripe, navy and powder blue-ish feather going on. They were fake sleevless jerseys as well. Me not likey! :o:

Toronto should be wearing the unis they wore in '92 and '93 when they won the World Series. No changes need to be made to them.

The lettering was a little funky.

The worst uniforms they ever wore were the ones in '03.

The Padres need to get their old uniforms from the Gwynn era. Bring back the navy blue and orange.

Oh those were the hideous uniforms of the late 1990s. They've had some good uniforms though with the exception of that.

The Blue Jays uniforms' and logo now [that they've had for about 10 years? or so] are absolutely terrible. My favorite logos of theirs are the Red T with the wrap-around Blue Jay and the solid red Maple Leaf logo [these were used and introduced in the mid-to-late 1990s]. I wish they'd design uniforms around those, not altogether different from the uniforms they had their first ~15 years in existence.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that red T with the Blue Jay was introduced in the mid-2000s and lasted maybe two years before switching to the current logo (which I like).

I know for a fact that the current Jays logo can't be older than 3 years or so.

EDIT: Turns out that the Red T logo was only used during the 2003 season, where it switched to the current logo in 2004. However, the Red T was used as an alternate from 2000-02.

Red White Sox uniforms from the early '70s.
Marlins unifroms from 1993 with the teal (not black) caps.
Even though some found this hideous, the Houston Astros uniforms with the orange hat and blue H star look and horizontal orange stripes across the jersey.

Toronto should be wearing the unis they wore in '92 and '93 when they won the World Series. No changes need to be made to them.

On that note, I'll add I'm somewhat partial to what was essentially the Reds' uniform from '68 through '92. Simple, but, in them, the Reds won 3 World Series, 5 pennants, 7 division titles (8 if you want to count '81, when they had the best record for the year in the majors), and had only six losing seasons. Since then, they've had only one division title and four winning seasons.

I'd like to see the Angels bring back their halo caps. Would like to see the Pirates bring back the early 70's unis along with the mustard-colored crown on their caps. And would definitely like to see the A's go back to their uniforms from their glory years of the early-mid 70's with the green or gold softball-style tops.

I wish they would offer existing uniform designs in cotton or wool fabrics. Not to sound too Costanza-y but there's no comparison in comfort.

The MLB uses polyester for its durability and ability to get stains out, not for its look or comfort. But as someone who wears jerseys around the house, I want comfort first.

The Mariners should bring back their blue and yellow colored uniforms from the 80's. I know nobody will agree with me, though.

Not bad, but the M's I remember as a kid had teal in their caps. I wish they'd bring em back.

Indians looked much better with red as their main color in the 90's than the navy they use now.

Mets in the 90's were perfect. No use of black or eighty alternate uni combination's.

Now that the Orioles have gone back to BALTIMORE on their road jerseys, I wish they'd make the final leap and go back to their old hat.

I agree. Not that I think the replacements were bad, but to me they just weren't improvement enough to warrant a change.

I think the current Orioles hats are great. They're classy and really do scream "Baseball!" at me. I don't know why...there's just something official and classic about them.

However, they have won all their championships with the older hats.

The Sox wear the black uniforms way too much. They seem to wear them at home and on the road more than the primary home and road uniforms. I will be curious to see how often they wear the blacks in the Toronto and Cleveland series.

Speaking of the Marlins, I think the Marlins are going to a orange kind of look when they become the Miami Marlins.

The Blue Jays and Mets have to get rid of the black. I don't get why the Mets keep pushing black.

Bottom line is if black is not in your teams colors you should not wear them. Maggs may see his college team even wearing black next year.

Finally, I would like to see the Phillies in maroon.

Yeah, I don't get that. I understand the re-branding of the team with a new stadium and playing in Miami and all, but why take on the color scheme of a division rival?

Unless they're emphasizing orange with blue as a secondary, instead of the Mets opposite scheme. That still seems odd to me, though.

Makes sense to me if it's the dominant color ... Florida sun and all that.

Plus it's a differentiator in a league dominated by blue and/or red teams.

I always liked the old orange H on top of a blue star Astros hats.

http://cn1.kaboodle.com/hi/img/c/0/0/19/b/AAAADFZx0Y0AAAAAABmzJA.jpgI think the perfect Mariners look is that from 94-96. They still had the teal brim on their home cap, and they even had a teal alternate jersey and a alternate teal cap with a navy brim (which I liked but could have done without). That alt jersey and hat only lasted three years, but the home cap was kept until 2001. That look was unique and very nice. Since they, they have relegated teal to an outline color on the numbers and wordmark, and they lost a lot of character. Now they look just like the Rays and are another team trying to be a bland Yankees clone (on the road, anyway).
