View Full Version : What are chances of a rainout Wednesday?

spongyfungy

It looks like it's going to be a rainy night on Wednesday (Peavy Start) with a chance of thunderstorms. My friend is coming up from Champaign to the ballpark but he'd rather not make the trip if it's rained out. Will they try to play through it? Or is there a chance for a doubleheader on Thursday?

Hm. Weather.com doesn't have it looking too good. 73% chance of rain, spectator index of only 2. I guess we'll see.

Not that I am anywhere new the Chicago area, but it appears the game would stand a better chance of being played if it were scheduled as a day game. Even if the game is played, it could be a miserable night at the ballpark, weather-wise.

Time for Peavy to show his grindy competitive intensity!

I hope they get this one in.

Not only do I want to see Peavy pitch, but it's a vast difference between a quick 7-8 inning Buehrle start and to a slow, plodding 5-6 inning Garcia start when I go to my first game on Sunday...

I've checked the forecast 4 times today and it's improved each time. I'm sitting 300 level for the first time. ($18 off of stub hub!!!) It looks like rain during the day, but clearing up before 6. With the drainage system The Sodfather put in, I think we should be fine so long as it doesn't rain during game time. Only a 20% chance of rain after 5 pm. Having a rainout would really suck for me because I'm driving 2.5 hours there and 2.5 hours back for this game.

The latest forecast looks good for game time!

55 degrees with a 20% chance of rain. I don't think we'll get to see batting practice because the field will be wet from earlier, but that's no big loss.

It's looking better every time I check. though the spectator index dropped to a 1  accuweather has rain stopping at 8 PM. wundergound has continual rain through the night

Hopefully this is a fast moving system and clears up by start of the game

I'm supposed to make a multi-hour trip for the game tomorrow. Do you think its worth it or will it get rained out? I see right now it might stop raining by 6, but will raining all day cause a cancellation?

Raining all day won't postpone the game. The field can take a ton of water. Supposed to stop by 5pm, so should be good. And the rest of the week is clear, and then Toronto. First 10 games and no rainouts? That's a good thing.

Why? 30% chance of rain from 6-7 and only 20% chance from 9-midnight. We might have a rain delay, but they can get this in with the drainage system they have at the cell. If the drainage system works as well as the Sodfather says, then we should be fine. It won't be beautiful, but if they can get it in I'll be happy.

Because it's been raining all day, and shows no signs of stopping at all between now and midnight?

It's hard to tell. One year it was cold with no rain, they called the game. A few years back, it drizzled up until game time, they called the game at 6:05, and it was beautiful out for the rest of the night. I'd suggest prepare for it to be played. Might have a big gate with Peavy pitching that they won't be able to duplicate if they have to make this a day game down the road.

They won't have a big walk up crowd if it's still raining at 6:30, and unless the refund policy is changed, the team won't lose a dime from tickets already sold.

I can only watch the game from Virginia, but still hoping they get it in. I blocked out three hours to watch!

Weather.com and Accuweather each say differently. They show a nice window during which they can get the game in. We may get an hour rain delay, but we can easily get this in from 8-midnight.

Depends on the replacements...and what time you need to make the decision. I assume that because some games have already started, you don't have to make the decision before the first game begins.

Does anyone know what the capacity of Bossard's drainage system? That's what will determine if we get this game in. There will be a 4 hour window without rain. The question that determines if we can get this in or not is whether or not Sodfather's drainage system can keep up until the rain stops around 7:30-7:45. If so, we can start the game sometime around 8. If not, then we get a rain out.

I ask about it's per hour capacity because I know it drains to the sewer. The question is how much water it can absorb per hour before we get puddles on the field, which would prevent a game.

That is simply not possible.

Technically, it was built to process at least 12.5 bazillion gallons of water per nanosecond - give or take a few kamillion gallons
