View Full Version : Big News Regarding Frank Thomas?

Chuck Garfien tweeted a bit ago saying "White Sox fans big news regarding Big Frank on CSN..." He has since deleted the tweet and there is nothing on TV nor on their website about it. So he must not have been allowed to say anything yet, but I wonder what it is. A job in the organization or CSN perhaps?

Maybe he'll play DH?

Chuck probably wouldn't have been the one doing the tweeting if it were a job in the organization. A CSN job is more likely.

In general, a media job would be more likely anyway, considering it would pay more and demand less.

Yeah he just sent out another one saying Big Frank = CSN. So it's probably an analyst job.

No real big surprise here. Frank was on CSN last year and I think he did some work with TBS too.

I actually like that idea. I always find him worthy of my attention. Not to mention that whole "best White Sox player ever" thing.

I'm actually holding out hope that it's this but I doubt it.

I am actually holding out hope we will sign him as DH. Sadly, I am serious.

I've been expecting this for awhile. Frank is a thoughtful, well-spoken guy. Sure he's had his moronic moments but he is a billion billions times better than Dave Kraplan who unfortunately did White Sox pre and post games last year at times.

I wonder if he will be doing pre and post game shows... or just some sports discussion every once in a while on those little segments. OR MAYBE he will hang out at the park and do post/pre game interviews. Either way it should be cool.

The biggest joke will be the starting DH on Monday.

Travis Hafner is kind of a joke, he's not been good for a few years...

I wouldn't be too quick to count Hafner out. If he's healthy he can come back.

Just wondering......... What would Frank sound like with Hawk and Stone Pony???

Yet we believe that neither Andru Jones nor Alex Rios nor Carlos Quentin can come back.

Frank is a very well spoken athlete; even more so due to his talent level. I think he will be awesome however CSN uses his talents.

What's wrong with Melton?

I guess he's not terrible. Serviceable in the studio. His atrocious performances as a commentator on the spring training webcasts have made him kind of a joke in my eyes, though.

Melton's not bad, but Frank can connect to the younger generation of fans. Wouldn't doubt if that's the move. Or maybe Melton would rather pop in once or twice a week?

If it's the Frank Thomas who was DHing for Oakland a couple of years ago, I wouldn't.

Hafner just screams roider to me. I don't think he will ever be the guy we saw 5 years ago.

Frank will definitely appeal to the 30-40 year olds....

Seriously though; 9 and 10 year old kids might *barely* remember Frank as a Sox player. 2004 was a while ago.

Frank, whatever he does; will be fine at it.

Frank, whatever he does; will be fine at it.Those little kids probably can't get their dads to shut up about him either. I'm sure if a 9 or 10 year old actually likes baseball enough to watch the pre/post game stuff, they will know who he is. A bald big man who looks young is a lot more hip than a guy who has gray hair and could be your great grandpa.

I like Melton... I hope he doesn't get replaced.

Any official word on what is happening to Bill Melton?

It's just a dream, but a combo of Frank and Stoney > Stoney and Hawk

The only thing I am dreading about this season is having to listen to Hawk every game. :(:

How do we know the extent of Frank's broadcasting abilities, though? Just because he's shown potential in the booth doesn't mean he is a natural fit in the booth.

If we're going to play the "which announcer do we get rid of?" game, I nominate Farmer. Guy is a complete bore.

That's a remarkably silly comment, whether you like Hawk or not. Broadcasting is a skill just as much as hitting.

Then don't. Listen to the radio; or get the MLB package and get the out of town broadcast team.

Otherwise; its a pretty silly comment to make since Frank has *yet* to call a single half-inning of a ballgame.

Loved Harry when he announced Sox games.........Maybe Frank can provide a little hitting advice when things get cold at the plate. He DOES know "a little" about hitting you know..........

CSN has done 2 analysts in the pre and post before like Van Lier + Gill

I'm more excited that Frank will be dispensing hitting advice to the players

I would listen to the radio, but then I'd have to sit through Farmer, who is almost as bad. But the fact that he's much less of a homer than Hawk is a plus. Still, it's the less of two evils.

Plus, I don't care enough to buy any kind of MLB radio package.

It's great that the Sox are keeping Frank around in this capacity. Hopefully he's with us as a community ambassador forever.
