View Full Version : Weather for Opening Day

According to The Weather Channel's 10-day forecast for U.S. Cellular Field (http://www.weather.com/weather/print/36728:20), the day before Opening Day (which happens to be Easter Sunday) could be rainy with a high of 54 degrees. Tomorrow, Opening Day itself will come into the 10-day window. Of course, this forecast can and probably will change early and often between now and then. So there is plenty of reason for hope for good weather on Opening Day.

Hopefully, we won't have a repeat of last year when Opening Day got postponed a day. This forced me to miss my first Opening Day in many years becasue I could not get out of work for the rescheduled day. This time, however, I prepared. I'm using a personal day for the make up date should it be needed.

Thankfully, my work was flexible with me last year and allowed me to take that Tuesday off instead. They obviously knew why I was taking the day off along with a few other guys here. As for the forecast, I won't read much into until probably that Thursday or Friday before.

I have tickets to opening day and also tickets to the Brewers game on Tuesday, so I'm really hoping that Opening Day happens on Monday, don't want to ruin seats 3 rows behind the dugout at Miller Park!

Hmph. I was assured by the Trib's weather page yesterday that it might be in the 70s for Opening Day.

If it's postponed again, :whiner:. I'll have to skip class on Tuesday to go. Monday is perfect because no classes are being held at my university.

Accuweather has it at 61 and mostly cloudy. This time of year, a wind shift off the lake can drop it into the 30's in a matter of minutes.

2002's Opening Day fell victim to the windshift you speak of...I will not wear shorts to Opening Day again. I believe it was in the upper 70's the day before Opening Day that year. I'll take anything 45 and above with sun. Can't wait!!!

Watching the weather this far ahead in Chicago in the spring is pointless. The 3-day is all you can rely on. The only reason they have a 10-day is for web page marketing/page clicks.

They been doing 10-day forecasts for decades now. Long before the Internet was a mass communication vehicle.

You are partially right...'06 OD had a great start...It was in the 60s and partially sunny (great tailgating weather, and I was not shivering during the World Series Championship banner ceremony)...It wasn't until the rain delay that it got crappy out...But that rushed out a bunch of fans so that we were able to move to a couple of rows behind the Sox dugout for the rest of the game!

I'd be weary of Accuweather. I'm far west Fox Valley and those predicted temps are the same as Bridgeport. That's not going to happen unless there's very strong SW winds and they're predicting North winds for Monday. I'm guessing Accuweather us using ORD as a forecast that far out. It was 10+ degrees warmer when I got off the train in Aurora than when I walked into Union Station this afternoon (the bank at Wacker/Adams said 48 and my car said 59 in Aurora).

Skilling knows all:

"Early cloudiness, especially eastern sections, then becoming mostly sunny, milder by afternoon inland where highs may reach the middle 60s. Southeast winds hold shoreline temps to the upper 40s/low 50s."
