I'm pretty sure it's him. (Don't laugh at me) Southpaw verified it, and his is an official Sox account. Gawd, I need to spend less time on Twitter.

We can be much more sure when it's listed as a Verified Account, or when MLB's twitter confirms it.

Edit - It was a Verified Account for about 10 minutes, then it was unverified...hmmm....

It could be comedy gold whenever the Sox lose a bad one this season.

That said, if this is really him, I would probably finally sign up just for this.

For the record: I doubt it's him. One reason being, his pic at one point was the pic of him doing the choke motion at the Indian fans which is basically the first pic that comes up on google. Sounds like just a fake. If he does indeed have a twitter, you know Ozzie will mention something about it to the media.

Yeah, I'm becoming less certain as time goes on. I clearly remember it being a Verified Account about 20 mins ago, and now it's not. But Southpaw has confirmed him....We'll see. Right now his number of followers is blowing up.

The real question is why I'm focusing so hard on this instead of my term paper. :redneck

Well, the thing is, Ozzie knows English. He just talks fast, and with a thick accent. That's what makes him unintelligible to a lot of people. He doesn't eek out half-competent sentences in his press conferences and interviews.

It's hard not to doubt it's authenticity when Ozzie is supposedly bored after three days of spring training. Not only do I not think Ozzie would be bored, I think if he did say that, even on Twitter, he'd be ripped a new one by Kenny or Jerry. Not exactly professional - "Hey everyone, I'm bored managing my team!"

Yes he does. He speaks fast, and it's not good English. It's not just the accent, he says 'no' instead of 'not' all the time. Not saying it's actually him, but this is bad reasoning to say it's not.

He says that every year in Spring Training. Usually it's later on, but he says it. Everyone is just ready for the season to start.

I can understand where Kenny's coming from. Who knows what he may let slip? Imagine the insanity of something like the blow-up doll controversy in Toronto with Ozzie commenting on it through Twitter every few hours...

I think it's cool that Ozzie has a Twitter account, but I sure don't want him to get fired over something this stupid.

I don't like the idea generally, but maybe a compromise is letting Scott Reifert review his posts. That way things are discussed before posting, and his Tweets doesn't become "out of the uncensored mouth of Ozzie".

Yep. I expect Ozzie to have bleep filled tweets where he bashes the Cubs, KW, fans that don't like his DH plans, his hatred of BA, pitchers who don't retaliate, umpires, his disdain for churros, etc. etc.

Well, I really don't expect any of that. Just commenting to those that think this is going to be "Ozzie unfiltered" I think will be in for a rude awakening. IMO he's not the crazy insane blithering made-for-tv idiot people think he is. From his responses to e-mails I've seen, the guy is pretty intelligent. If he's tweeting about his family and nothing baseball related, I expect to see pretty much what he's been tweeting. Those who expect what I listed above, I think, will be extremely disappointed. And I agree, the little things, like his tweet last night about wanting to meet Kobe and the barbecue he had, are pretty cool. It's why I think this whole controversy about having a Twitter page are really much ado about nothing.

I completely disagree. He's already told KW he's not going to discuss White Sox business. If he's to react as you say, that makes me think you believe Ozzie to be a complete idiot who has no control over his emotions. I completely disagree. So I signed up for a Twitter account after hearing about this. However, if I look at the Sports section of the "suggestions" page, Ozzie isn't there. Neither is Joe Cowley. I signed up for the official MLB updates, but I get so many that are meaningless gibberish that I'll probably take it off.

So, I figure that to "follow" Ozzie or Cowley, I have to find him in the "find people" page. Every time I go to that page, the screen says "Twitter is temporarily stressed out from all the tweets, so this function is unavailable at this time".

Does anyone else get this? What am I missing?

I would agree...however, some people (myself included), have Twitter blocked at work, and may not be an avid Twitter watcher while home. I do get updates on my phone, so that isn't a problem for me.There's really no harm in these updates. The thread is a thread about Ozzie having a Twitter account. Good. Oney Guillen has a few things to learn. He was one of the worst professional baseball players ever. The only reason he has anything is because of his last name. The ungrateful little punk wants to give his bosses trouble? He doesn't realize how lucky he is. If he ever had to actually work for anything, he'd probably be a much better person. Cowley has become a sad, sad joke between his reporting and his personal tweets using the Suntimes account.

You'd think a city like chicago would be able to land a good beat reporter

At the expense of his son, though? You'd think he'd want to deflect the attention away from Oney, which is what he was trying to do before Cowley wrote all this out.

Your second sentence is more factual than your first, IMO.

Ozzie thinks his kid is being picked on and he's upset. I don't feel it has anything to do with the performance on the field. At any rate, if the players are feeling pressure in ST, the Sox are in trouble this year.

Almost as funny as this. The funniest part is Ozzie really hasn't played a part in any of this. His son is a no good piece of **** and can't respect the wishes of his employer. Then Joe Cowley jumps in and spreads Oney's **** all over the wall.

Memo to Oney Guillen: you're not entitled to anything. Ozzie defending him isn't going to help Oney one bit...he's always going to be a no good piece of ****. A lot of people forget this bull**** with his two youngest sons started last year when they were tweeting about Jenks' drinking problem and going back and forth with Cowley and Cora.

Oney's basically had a dream job, working & traveling with a major league baseball team while making decent money and having total job security. He's either really stupid or really unappreciative, or a combination of both.

There's no need for anybody on the management side to be tweeting about the team. I'm with Kenny on this 100%.

Wow, Oney is really stupid.

He obviously wants to be in professional baseball. He has a fantastic opportunity with who his dad is. The smart thing for him to do is to mouth off and resign from the club (or be forced too). You think any other team will give you a job when the team who your father is the manager for doesn't want you?

Brilliant move, Oney. Have fun living off your dad for the rest of your life.

edit: and as far as this causing a rift with Ozzie- I think Ozzie is probably mad or pissed about it, but I don't think he is nearly as stupid as his son. He should use this as a way to teach his son a lesson instead of causing a rift with himself and the Sox.

Oney is a stupid embarrassment to himself, his family and the organization. Good riddance. You'd think he'd be at least smart enough to realize how he got his job. But he has to act like a big shot, mouth off on Twitter and then quit when management simply asked him to stop Twittering. Unbelievably stupid.

I've found it embarrassing over the years to see Ozzie's sons hanging around the team in uniform as they grew older. As kids, OK. But they had no business being in the dugout as young adults.

It's one thing for Ozzie and Kenny to be engaged in some kind of personal battle. At least both men are accomplished in the game. But to have Oney rebel against management's wishes is ridiculous. His only accomplishment is that he's Ozzie's son. Now we really know how dumb he is and that he didn't even remotely deserve to have a job in the organization.

If that happens; we won't get a sniff of the world series for about 10 years or so.

This is moronic. This is what happens when you have kids who have ZERO business being in the organization. If Ozzie plays this as Ozzie should, he'll address it tomorrow, and move on. But if Ozzie pulls his usual?

We might have a new manager.

And THEN I'd love to see how this team will do; given the Ozzie haters will finally get what they wanted:

The termination of the only manager in my lifetime to get the Sox to the World Series.

Setting up for the return of the manager who excuses HGH and steroid use, Tony LaRussa.

Now, if Ozzie decides it's important enough to quit over an issue like this, do you really want that kind of irrational mindset at the helm anyway? That's certainly not the genius-in-disguise, master-manipulating, crazy-smart manager that Harrelson has always painted him as.

I don't think KW or JR will fire Ozzie over this.

However, I could see Ozzie doing or saying something really stupid and inflammatory, thus escalating the situation, and putting KW and JR in a position where they have to fire him (or Ozzie simply quits). I don't think it's likely, as I think cooler heads will prevail, but it is possible.

If I had to make a prediction, Oney will quietly apologize to "Mr. Reinsdorf and Mr. Williams" and be re-hired by the organization in some capacity that has less contact with the on-field personnel (perhaps in exchange for a promise to draft him in the 38th round this June).

I'll do you one better. I was picking something up at Woodfield a couple hours ago and my dad called to tell me he was listening to the radio and heard "Ozzie stepped down from his position within the organization." Considering he heard said news from Dave Kaplan, proven Cubs fan and mouthpiece, I didn't fully believe it, but there was a part of me that kind of died inside just a little bit, thinking something major could've happened. I texted JB to find out if he'd heard that and he said it was Ozzie's son who'd stepped down, not Ozzie himself. I immediately called my dad back and clarified the story to him and asked him not call me about something that big unless he knew FOR SURE that he heard correctly- LOL!

What's irrelevant is whether you're famous or not. Usually the company you work for doesn't like you bad mouthing them. Whether you like the way things are run or not, you keep your mouth shut. If you really must let it out, you keep it in your home or keep it inside the organization (though the only reason you're on Twitter saying it, is because no one gives a **** what you think), you don't splatter it all over Twitter and you especially don't talk to Joe Cowley about it.

I really doubt that there is anyone in that clubhouse who is distracted by what Ozzie is twittering and that includes Ozzie. If this policy was violated the club is well within it's rights to act. This kid is not a celebrity but a want to be. He crossed a line, got called on it and rather than work on a solution with the club he decided to act like a child and not a man and bitch. I pray that this is not an issue that will cloud the team with Ozzie style tantrums. It is ridiculous. He has a right to stand by his son but his son needs to be held accountable the same way that Ozzie holds players accountable.

The media which is "condemning" the organization for their secrecy is the same group that will immediately hang the Sox organization by their gonads the minute something gets out on facebook or twitter that isn't "politically correct."

Whether what the Sox want is fair or not is meaningless.

You work for the Sox you follow the rules of the organization. Period.

I don't know where the kid is coming from but he is seriously out of line with his comments. If any "regular" person did this they'd be kicked out the door of wherever they work.

Agreed with those who wrote earlier that these "toys" like twitter and facebook are dangerous and taking the focus away from what the players, coaches and manager should be focused on. Winning friggin' game. Period.

None of the twitter junk could, or would , ever affect any pitch , hit, run, or out, in any game, ever.

Most companies for which we work have policies about never posting items about company business on places like Twitter or even the Internet. As the saying goes, "Don't post something that could eventually appar on the front page of the newspaper." How that rings true here with Oney and his tweets. Meanwhile, it seems that Oney's subsequent expressions of undying loyalty to the White Sox are part of some sort of effort to get within their good graces.

I can't believe we're already seeing drama, and it's being caused by twitter.

Reading Ozzie's posts, I'm surprised his English is that bad. Not to be a jerk, but why isn't he getting more help in that area, especially since he's a MLB manager. His latest tweet reads:

"Enjoy with my family nothing better than that my boys and friends thas one tink keep me a live".

"Tink"? Seriously, he should know how to spell "thing" by now. If he got some help, I'm sure it would only help his communication skills in the clubhouse.
