I'm real excited for March. Starting the 2nd, MLB Network has at least one spring training game televised every day, sometimes two. I don't recall nearly as many being on TV last year. This means even when the Sox aren't on, there will be baseball to watch.

Last time I checked it was 15 days until this day, and then it just happened.

After experiencing my first opening day last season (although sadly not with the Sox), I guarantee you will have an awesome time!

This season I'm starting a new tradition. Since my house is within walking distance of the ballpark and doesn't have metered parking, I've always been the meeting place for games. This year, we will be starting at 10 with a pancake bar and beer. I can't wait!

Yes. Typically once a home stand but it varies. It'd be cheaper for me to buy a 25-game package but I like the ability to just walk over whenever I want.

I started talking about everyone meeting here and since I love being the hostess, it evolved itself from just meeting to meeting with breakfast to breakfast being pancakes to having a pancake bar so everyone can choose what type of pancake they have. It should be one unique "tailgate". :D:

Sox opening day is before the Rockies (Sox is on Monday, Rockies on Friday) so I will be at work while the Sox are celebrating their first home game of the season. :(: There's a frowny face cause I don't get to watch or listen to games at work cause I get too loud.

For me, it's writing down the game schedule in my day planner, digging my Sox shirts from the drawer to wear, changing my sig pic here on WSI, eating a hot dog for dinner (I did this last year when I was abroad, and it was such fun), wishing all my fellow Sox fans (and one Twins fan) a Happy New Year on facebook, etc.

For me; its to catch a few ST games on the radio, get one of them on TV. And then, since I normally work for Opening Day; to have it on the radio while decked out in Sox gear while delivering the mail, with the radio BLASTING as the first time I hear Gene's WSCR "White Sox Baseball...." with "He's a Pirate" in the background.

1. Being a Mod, I don't have the luxury of putting people on ignore.

2. This off-season, the majority of people here can't stand the DH rotation that Ozzie is implementing, and aren't exactly happy with the Teahen acquisition. This (http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=cws&m=3&y=2010) seems to suggest that there will not be any spring training games on WGN this year, though a substantial minority of the games will be webcast. I always enjoyed catching a spring training game or two on TV, but it might be time for me to pony up and buy MLB.tv Premium this year; at $120 for the season it's less than a dollar for each White Sox game and of course there are all the other games. This (http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=cws&m=3&y=2010) seems to suggest that there will not be any spring training games on WGN this year, though a substantial minority of the games will be webcast. I always enjoyed catching a spring training game or two on TV

The calendar view of the ST schedule does not have broadcast information, for whatever reason.

There will be three White Sox ST games on WGN: March 6th and 7th against the Cubs will be on the station, with the Cubs announcing team, and March 20th against San Diego will also be on WGN, with Hawk and Stoney.

I made a topic detailing the broadcast schedule earlier this week:

Ah, very helpful. Your post mentions that the webcasts are free on whitesox.com, but my impression was that those webcasts are part of mlb.tv and need to be purchased as part of a full-season package? Is that incorrect? Are the preseason games basically a free preview of what the regular season games would be?

Got the following tweets for Cowley:

Peavy headlines a list of pitchers set to throw live BP to the early campers in about 30 minutes. Finally, some action.

Peavy already yelling at himself becasue of his control. That only took about 6 pitches.

Peavy just broke Lillibridge's bat. Liili is in midseason form.

Vizquel with back-to-back singles off Peavy. Not bad old man, even though he knew fastballs were coming.

If its even possible, Cabrera looked worse than his numbers indicate. He had absolutely no control at all, basically the worst of any of the guys I've seen so far. I didn't catch much of the game, but I did see Danks swipe 2nd, and whoever the catcher wearing 81 throwing out an attempted steal of 2nd. It was nice seeing one of our catchers, even if its a guy who has 0 chance to make the team, throwing out a baserunner.

I don't think there is a box score for today's game, since it wasn't really as much of a game as it was just a chance to get out there and play against some other guys for a couple innings. I didn't see anyone keeping score or anything, I think some of the innings ended when the pitchers hit their pitch counts rather than getting 3 outs, so it was really just a glorified practice against a different team instead of a real game.

I definitely hate lazy players and am glad KW yelled at him for it. However, I don't really care about his shape as long as he hits the baseball. He seems to be of the Carlos Lee/Prince Fielder-ish body type. You can be a big boy as long as you swing a big bat. What worries me about Dayan is his lack of progress at the plate. He seems to be clueless when the pitcher gives him a steady diet of breaking balls. He is still young and could definitely turn the corner at any time but the clock is already ticking on that big contract he signed.

No doubt. If a player can smash he's often granted a pass for his athleticism. I would probably care less if he was raking, but lazy conditioning often means a lazy work ethic, and Dayan needs plenty of work judging by his Uribe-esque swings at any breaking pitches in the dirt.

White Sox closer Bobby Jenks working on new technique - full windup to gain velocity. More later.

This could be a good thing or a bad thing. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. It also makes you wonder what his current velocity is if there is a need to increase it.

Bobby had an MRI on the calf and mild irritation was found. Cue up the closer controversy.

Only mild surprise here is Retherford since he'd been mentioned as a dark horse to supplant either Nix/Lillibridge.

Personally think this clears the way for Nix to get the last roster spot.

I think that decision has already been made, as he is out of options. He just hasn't really done anything to make the decision a no-brainer. I think the Retherford dark-horse story was made up by ozzie to light a fire under Lillibirdge and Nix. It failed.

I know his defense has been bad, but he is hitting the ball, right?

Yep. People see the K's and think he's batting .100

His defense is questionable at positions other than 2B.

I'm really curious to see what this Santos kid can do. I think it'd be one hell of a story if a failed infielder can become a great relief pitcher.

I wonder about Garcia's shoulder. If this keeps up, Dan Hudson won't be in Charlotte very long.

I think Hudson is pretty much an untouchable in regards to trades at this point. If a starter goes down it's Hudson, Torres, and than nothing.

Garcia has had a horrible spring to say the least.

However, Cowley said that Freddy just doesn't care out there. I think Ozzie also said that if they didn't already know Freddy, they'd be concerned.

We'll see how he does when the bell rings. I imagine he'll be kept on a pretty short least before the Sox go to Hudson. Considering he's the 5th starter, there's not much cause for concern.

On a lighter note...

Santos just struck out the side, save a walk, in the bottom of the 5th.

I'm sure they'll pick their spots to use Santos at first. But it would be a great thing if he eventually makes Linebrink's badness irrelevant.

Cowley says it's going to go one of two ways for Santos.

Either he can't find the plate come regular season and the Sox are forced to send him down and most likely lose him to waivers.

OR

He's gonna be so good and then groomed into the closer of the future.

In 9.1 IP, Santos has struck out 16 batters. However, he has also walked 7.

He seems very very similar to that guy on the north side of town.

Yeah, except Marmol probably has one of the best, if not the best, slider in all of baseball.

Santos' slider is pretty nasty as well. It sits between 88-90 according to sources. He also has a great changeup. If he can harness his command he could be fantastic late inning guy/closer.

It's kind of funny (sad?) that one of the best relief prospects in the organization is a converted IF who has been pitching for less than a year.

Yeah it is very good, it's just that Marmol's is just the definition of nasty, but like Santos, has trouble finding the plate.

Best case scenario for Santos: White Sox version of Marmol

Worst case scenario: Another Mike MacDougal

I think he can be one of those effectively wild pitchers, as long as he's able to locate that fastball consistently.
