A fair, but optimistic assessment. Our lineup and bullpen could be anywhere from potent to impotent. I have no fricking idea.

But you won last year's pre-season prediction contest. You can do better than that!

Well, clearly this writer is not a WSIer. Otherwise he would have written that Ozzie is at Kinkos making copies of his resume to send out in October.

One of the worst offenses in the league as he states. If he is correct, You need some kind of pitching staff and defense to overcome that liability.

This felt balanced to me. Nice to see a writer who doesn't feel that he has to make something that resides in one of a million shades of grey into something completely black and white to polarize an audience. (AKA Mariottiing)

MOD EDIT - Let the language filter do it's job.

He pretty much hit the nail right on the head as to what we've been saying these past few days. Our teams fortunes rest on Andruw Jones.

That's an awfully thin line to walk.

That's the first time in a while that "thin" and "Andruw Jones" have been used together in a long time.

NOt if it's 2005-2006 Andruw Jones. If we see 2007-2009 Andruw Jones, we're in a world of hurt!

If Andruw Jones has an OPS over .900 in 150+ games, yeah, we'll be just fine.

I wouldn't exactly call that article optimistic.

Unless the Sox land another legitimate bat for 2010, this seems to be what Ozzie's DH gamble rests on.

Sure, it's possible for Jones to rebound to 2006 form. I'm hoping for that to happen, but odds are against it. If Jones is magically revitalized this year, then Ozzie might look like a genius. If not, then we have a huge gaping hole in the middle of our lineup and Ozzie can't blame the players, the team KW gave him, etc.

We were 7 games out last year. 7..... not 20. Peavy alone can make up for that number by switching Jose with Jake.

Lets say Andruw Jones does exactly what he did last year except for a full season.

He would hit .215 BA / 33 HR / 90 RBI

Now mix that with With Kotsay hitting against RHP hit .290 last season in about 200 PA.

You probably get something more like .260/28 HR/80 RBI out of our DH spot. Which wouldn't you know it is about what Thome would of given us except with better base running.

Let's explore another possibility, even if Kotsay is relegated to backup only. You the jump in Alex Rios's numbers alone will make up for the BA from Andruw Jones.

I think it is safe to say Rios will do better than he did last year.
