Seeing Minnie at Soxfest got me thinking. We've entered a new decade. When is 84 year old Minnie Minoso going to get his next professional appearance. His last 2 appearance came in 1993 and 2003. Both for the Northern League's St Paul Saints. (Bill Veeck's sons team) In 2003 he drew a walk before he was removed for a pinch runner.

The decade record must bring Minnie some kind of joy otherwise he wouldn't have extended it the last 2 times. I personally would like to see the St Paul Saints or one of the local Northern League teams extend this streak and help make Minnie the 8 Decade man.

I think about this, then I think about my 85-year-old dad standing in a batters box with a live 90 mph fastball coming at him. 80+ year old reflexes are not good. I'd hate to see Minnie get hurt for a stunt.

I don't know Minnie personally, but I think he'd be happy playing around in BP or just don't think about it. He's 84!

I stood by Minnie for the last few innings of Game 4 of the ACLS in Anaheim in '05 and it was the thrill of a lifetime. He is a Sox fan through and through, and more importantly a wonderful human being. If he wants to play he should be allowed to, although as a previous poster said I think he would be perfectly happy taking some BP or just hanging out on the field before a game.

The Sox really need to be applauded for reaching out to old Sox stars like Minoso and Pierce...

I'd rather have him than Andruw Jones.

MLB put the kabash on this happening some time back, but I'd like to just see if he can still hit. Minnie easily belongs in the HOF and is still one of the greatest guys around, period.
