New Era just announced the new caps. Here's the Sox version. I like it a lot more than the version they wore from '07-'09.

Ugh, I'm not a fan of it. I wish they'd bring back the one they wore in 2005 with the silver brim. Or better yet, just wear one damn hat!

I do like this version better than the "ear fender" version from '07-'09. I agree that the version with the silver bill was the best looking.

I've been wearing the batting practice caps since they came out with the 3930 flexfit version. They are THE MOST comfortable caps I've ever worn and I've been wearing a baseball cap almost everyday of my life for 20 years.

They fit me the best too.....I have a ginormous noggin and it's hard for me to find caps that fit right. The large-extra large version of these caps are just right.

Are they trying to gradually phase out the Chief Wahoo logo?

Why do they have to have a separate hat just for BP? Of course, I know the answer, to sell more licensed merchandise. It's only marginally better than the fender hat, but it's ugly in its own right.

Why do they have to have the extra white and gray crap? The piping and that gray spot should all be black.

I like it better than the one they are replacing, however agree with most everyone else that the silver brim version from a few years ago is still the best. I liked it so much I bought an extra one that I still haven't worn.

Even with the redesign, I bet Ozzie won't wear the cap. I never saw him wear the last version during spring training as he always wore the regular black game cap.

I'm surprised it hasn't already been phased out in the political correct society we now live in. When Bill Clinton threw out the first pitch in Cleveland (forgot if it was for opening day or All-Star game), he wore a similar "C" throwback cap.

The Giants new bp hat has a solid orange bill.. wonder what made them 'special' enough to get that and no other team?? Would have been nice to see the Sox with a silver bill...

Then they can't sell more caps to people who have to have them all.

I checked out the New Era website (below) and the Braves, Giants, Indians, Marlins and Phillies all have hats that have a solid bill compared to the other teams that either have a two-tone bill or a contast piping color.

The Rays, Tigers and Yankees have two different versions, one for home and one for road games.

I'll agree with this as well. According to uniwatchblog.com, there is this annoying detail on the caps as well. Hopefully the Sox opted out of this one, or the designers didn't include it for the Sox version, or however these decisions are made to swindle you out of more money.

I agree as well. In fact, I would like to see them wear the silver brim cap with their grey road unis. That would be quite cool, IMO.

Yuck. It looks like the Reebok NFL caps from a few years ago.

If I didn't know better and had seen it in the stores, rather than here, I would have thought that it was a bargain bin adjustable cap for $9.99.

Agreed on the fit of the BP hats. I wear a 7 3/4 or an 8 usually and the Sox hat I wear most is the ear fender BP hat. Not as hot, much more comfortable. I got used to the look. I just wish they had made it all black.

Not a fan of the redesign. Have to pick up some of the ear fenders on clearance.

It looks like it (should have) a plastic adjustable strap in the back and something I would buy a toddler in the sale bin at Kmart.

Well, I prefer the batting practice hats to wear during the summer as they're cooler (in the sense of heat.)

Granted, slapping anything black on your head to begin with in the sun isn't going to keep your head cool, but....

So does anybody know yet if this part is on the Sox hat? I actually kind of like this BP hat and I'll probably buy it but only if it does NOT have this part on the back of it. I can't find a way to see the back on the Sox shop page.

I'm 100% sure that feature is on every cap. The only variation is the color scheme. The piping color will match whatever color is on the front of the cap. For the Sox cap, I'm sure the piping is white with a grey/silver area around the MLB logo.

I know MLB changed to the synthetic material a few years ago in order to improve the looks and performance of the older wool style hats, especially in the area of sweat stains, etc. However, I never really understood why they substituted the gray underbill with the current black underbill.

I had thought the changed from the dark green underbills back in the 70s/80s. to the light gray underbill because players said the lighter underbill helped them see the ball better. Now it seems like they completely reversed course and went darker than the original green with the current black underbill. I read this time that it was because the black underbill acts as sort of an "eye-black" to help reduce glare.

Now I don't know who to believe, however I still like my older New Era wool field cap with the gray underbill better than the current field hat.

Bringing back an earlier thread on the BP Cap. I noticed on the White Sox website Shop tab that they have a banner ad for an all-black with white piping BP hat, however when you click on the caps section, they only show the earlier black and gray bill version.

Has anyone seen the all-black bill version? I think it looks a lot better than the one being sold on the website.

That photo of the all black hat with white piping looks incredibly better then the actual one for sale. I would consider purchasing the one shown in that banner ad.

I agree. When I saw the banner ad, I jumped to the caps section only to be disappointed the cap displayed is not for sale or listed on the site. Obviously they make it and I've seen other teams such as the Rays have multiple BP hats. Anyone know where to get this version?
