Seemed to have a promising career.

Yeah really is a shame. He was quite the athlete when healthy. Probably would have put his bat together if he never got injured too. Seems he'll be well off though.

He was the reason why "The Carlos Quentin" was available for trade!

It was a ridiculous contract when they gave it too him, but I had hoped it would turn out better. I always like Brynes for some reason. I'm sure he'll land on his feet somewhere.

I don't know. He always seemed to be landing on his stomach. :D:

Think the Sox have any interest as part of thier DH/OF combo? If this guy is healthy he'd play a mean OF with his speed and a welcome addition to the line-up.

I have zero problem giving him a chance...I'd think he has a better chance of being good than Jones does.

I would have to agree with you, but I would still rather see the Sox take a flier on X Nady.

I never liked him much. I'm not expecting to start anytime soon.

This was a bad contract from the moment they signed him. They are eating 11mm to not have to look at him this year - that's funny.

The D-Backs got great TV from Eric and his goofy baseball show for FOX Sports Arizona. I mean who really cares if he's been injured the last few years, he can always be goofy on Comcast Sports Chicago. Now that was 33 worth million dollars well spent......:scratch:http://multimedia.foxsports.com/thumbnails/cached_media/0001/0001388/0001388992/images/thumb.jpg:bandance:

I think the Sox current in-house options are better than Byrnes.

If no one picks him up, there's a job at Fox, ESPN, or the MLB Network waiting for him.

His show was amusing when he and Conor Jackson went to the grocery store and argued about what kind of hot dog buns to buy. Must-see television, no doubt.

Let me be the first to say it:

"Coop'll fix him".:D::D:

I seem to remember him doing 'analysis' for one of the networks during the 05 World Series. When there was the incident with a fan hassling Craig Biggio's wife, I remember him going off on Sox fans and how they're the 'worst fans in baseball'.

Unless I'm remember incorrectly??? Am I?

Byrnes typically had funny analysis. I think it was during the MLB playoffs one year he said that many times he'd go up to bat and sometimes just close his eyes and swing because he felt overmatched. Another was when he was doing an interview from a boat in McCovey Cove in SF during All-Star weekend and he was talking while trying to retrieve his bulldog who'd jumped in to get a ball.

What does Don Cooper or our pitching staff have to do with Eric Byrnes or this thread?

Another guy that KW was rumored to be interested in, on more than one occasion.

Now that he's been released I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox give him an incentive-laden contract.

People just like repeating the worst joke to ever exist in WSI history.

You would be right, because that is when I stopped liking him. It may not have been those exact words, but it was insulting.

He is no longer unemployed, the M's signed him to a 1 year deal (http://seattle.mariners.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100129&content_id=7997672&vkey=news_sea&fext=.jsp&c_id=sea).
