An ESPN Chicago writer gives his reasons for the 05 Sox to be the "Team of the Decade":

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4765669

He also neglected to mention all those post season complete games.

Whiffle:

Not to get technical but that's ESPN Chicago we're talking about aren't we? Or is that the Eastern Sports Programming Network in Bristol.

Me thinks there's a big difference between the two.

Article says that the 2002 Angels and 2005 White Sox had the best records of World Series winners this decade, at 99-63. The Yankees won 103 games this past season.

No, Simon pretty explicitly says "second-best" in the first bullet point...

This is a serious discussion if looked at without bias. While that might be a little difficult coming from ESPN, this might be a legitimate claim that might actually make its way to a top finish. Who was more dominant? I don't see it- no one even comes close.

Great for ESPNChicago, but everyone else will name the 2004 Boston Red Sox and their miracle to end the oppression, suffering and angst of all will be the Team of the Decade and it won't even be close.

I thought the debate was between the 2005 Sox and the 1927 Yankees.

At least one writer at ESPN gives our 2005 team some props:

That year was incredible and the memories remain every bit as fun. I can't wait for baseball to start again!

In other news today, ESPN has announced the recent cutbacks that have led to layoffs. Unfortunately they need one less staff member. Mark Simon was the only casualty for this cutback. The company cited a lack of assimilation that must have slipped through the training seminars.

In the tribune poll, while the Sox are winning quite a few categories, it makes me sick that the Sox are now 2000 votes behind the NU women's lacrosse team, and I'm even an NU grad. You have to wonder, had the Cubs won a title this decade, would they seriously be losing to the NU lacrosse team?? Please...

Why? That is a dynasty and an amazing story with all they have done within the community. It sounds ridiculous that it makes you "sick."

MLB Network has the '05 White Sox as the fifth best baseball team of the decade behind the '08 Phillies, '01 Diamondbacks, '09 Yankees and '04 Red Sox. Personally I don't think the '04 Red Sox should be that high on the list.

Not unless it's a list of teams whose players used the most steroids in this decade!

The 2005 White Sox are the best team of the decade. Period. Wire-to-wire champs, 11-1 postseason, 4 straight complete games in the ALCS, and swept the defending world champs. Enough said.

Of those teams, I would rank only the '09 Yanks and maybe the '01 D-backs ahead of the 2005 Sox. All strong teams, mind you, but I see only the two I mentioned beating the '05 Sox in a mythical playoff series.

I'm not sure if the '01 Diamondbacks had a better all-around team as the '05 Sox, speaking in terms of a balance of power and speed, along with top-to-bottom great pitching. However, having Schilling and Johnson on the mound as their 1-2 was like having two automatic wins to start each series for Arizona.

I saw that last night and almost threw a fit when they listed the Sawx as the number one team. Give me a break. The '05 Sox were superior from beginning to end, and didn't have to dig out of a 0-3 hole in the ALCS either.
