That's nearly a Top 10 all-time salary for a RP. This is why the Orioles suck.

They also just signed Garret Atkins to a 1 year deal.

Anyone familiar with the Orioles plans for the rotation next year? Is it going to be Millwood, Guthrie, Hernandez, Tillman, and Matusz with Arrieta starting the year in AAA?

They sure have some sexy pitching prospects.

He gives them the ability to trade him for prospects when they are 30 games out in July.

That would actually be quite a cough because Dotel should be in there as well. He was solid for us, but certainly not top 13 in the league solid. Also, Jenks is going to be the 10th highest paid reliever after arbitration? Its a shame we couldnt have invested some of this money into developing/drafting players instead of slightly above average relief pitchers.

The Orioles continue to be directionless.

I don't necessarily like the signing, but I'm not going to knock the Orioles as they have an amazing young core with some of the best pitching prospects in the game. I would love to be able to build around Markakis, Jones, Wieters, Matusz, Tillman, Arrieta, and to a lesser extent Reimold. If the pitching works itself out, this team isn't that far off from being a decent club.

They are entering the Holliday bidding.

The O's also made a run at Adrian at the winter meetings.

If they manage to get Holliday, I wonder if they'll actually be willing to part with Markakis like I was speculating in a previous thread. :o:

If the White Sox some how swing a Markakis deal (I doubt they will), I get to say "I told you so". :D:

How dare you forget these key pieces of the Orioles...

All kidding aside, Felix was pretty great for them. I'd think you'd want to make fun of the Cubs for letting him go, Craw.

I agree with DS. Not a terrible move, and they've got a talented core.

Felix Pie (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/piefe01.shtml) was great last year for the Orioles? Great, really?

Not a bad deal, considering decent closers are going for over $7M per season this offseason. Gonzalez is a decent closer. For reference, Valverde wants $10M, but who's to say he'll get it.

Those numbers won't seem so bad after the Sox give Jenks $7-8M

Too bad he won't have many games to save.

Good. He was good. I was far too loosey goosey with my language. Everyone has such tempered expectations for the guy -- considering his defense and salary, I'll take that production. He was streaky, yes, but for an age 24 season it was encouraging.

+1

I think this is a much better deal than the one the Braves gave to Wagner.

Didn't they make a run at local boy Mark Teixeira last offseason, or was that the Nats?

Both teams did.
