Pirates elect not to offer Matt Capps a contract:
I'm surprised a team in their position is just giving up on a guy like that. His '09 ERA is a little scary, but based on his career stats and the fact that 12 of the 35 runs he gave up last year came in 3 outings totaling 2 innings, I'd say he's an easy fixer-upper. If the Sox picked up a guy like that at this point and he regained his 2006-2008 form, we'd be looking at a really, really strong bullpen. I hope KW has Don Cooper on the phone looking at some tape right now.

I'd take a shot on him too.

It sounds like the Sox are done with the bullpen from all their recent comments.

right now, though, the free agent market is saturated. they could even get a guy to take an invite by late january if it stays this deep.

While Capps seems intriguing, he's an extreme flyball pitcher that doesn't have the game for our ballpark (or the AL in general probably). Given his arm problems and sudden downturn in 2009, I'll pass -- even if Bobby is traded.

Supposedly the Yankees are hot on his tail.

And shouldn't this be in WTS?

I'd wager he ends up on the Cubs.

I'd wager he ends up on the Cubs.

In the CHC's never ending quest to revamp their pitching staff with former PT players!!
