Is there any park in the Majors that not only has troughs, but has management that refuses to address them? Good God.

IIRC the Metrodome has troughs, too. I dislike the Twins, and many of their fans are annoying, but at least they don't try to claim that troughs gave the place "character."

How long before Cubs fans and the fawning media claim the crumbling concrete contributes to the ambiance?

Cubs fans and the fawning media would brag about asbestos and lead paint.

I remember opening day at Comiskey II, and a few attendees were lamenting that there were no troughs. I mean, really, people?

When Fenway was sold in 2002 the troughs were the first thing on the sidewalk

In the hideously long lines at the right field concourse men's rooms, the only lamenting I heard was "What happened to the Future Sox trough?"

(For you youngsters, at old Comiskey there were troughs, and a few of them had signs above "For Future Sox Only".)

As a Sox fan, I take the high road. It's too easy to piss all over them.

Hey-O!!

Granted, it's a different sport but Joe Louis Arena has troughs. I figured it was just old technology until going to a game earlier this year and noticing they were nice new troughs with water pumping through.

Why is this even news?

I thought the local media's ass kissing of the Cubs was gonna stop once the Tribune no longer owned them.

You do realize that this is not at The Urinal?

So, the Cubs now have to rely on the mens bathrooms to prove they have "history" and "tradition." I guess when you don't have actual success on the field to show history and tradition, you need something that symbolizes what they have done each year on the field of play.

They might as well keep the troughs, as the place will still smell like urine anyway.

Of course one of the highlights of MLB Network covering the Winter Meetings was Ozzie still finding as way to get on national TV to tell the world how much he cannot stand Wrigley Field.

So the Tribune company was sold to The Onion?

That just cracks me up. When its the punchline of so many jokes; they shouldn't be saying it adds to the mystique of the ballpark....

check out the 3rd comment. More proof their fans are dumb.

I love Wrigley way more than the Cubs, lose the stadium, and the charm will be gone too. But the bathrooms are one of those rare places the truck stop rule applies: clearly your penis is one of the cleanest things in there, don't touch anything but yourself, then get out, fast.

Actual quotes from that thread:

Real fans know to pregame elsewhere, as the ballpark beers are expensive. Also, real fans get drunk enough before the game that they forget they don't need to keep drinking the expensive ballpark beers all during the game.

The best thing about Cubs game is you always find a reason to get smashed! Cubs win lets party! Cubs lose - they suck! lets get hammered!

Long time ago I took a friend to a cubs game in that God awful stadium. He'd lived kind of a sheltered life and never been to a cub game(he was a cub fan, poor guy). I remember him asking where the bathrooms were. I simply told him we were standing in them and chuckled.

Actual quotes from that thread:

It's good to see there are actually some realistic Cub fans though...from this comment in the thread. Sounds like somebody from here wrote that. :D:

The troughs are terrible and I honestly don't understand why anyone would be happy that they're staying. It should also be noted that, although I KNOW I'm in the minority here especially, I honestly think that Wrigley needs to be torn down and rebuilt. With the exception of the bleachers, which are actually nice now that they've been redone, the rest of Wrigley is a dump. I'm a lifelong Cubs fan and bleed Cubby blue but my fellow Cubs fans deserve better. A LOT better. The place smells like piss, there is rust everywhere, broken seats, obstructed views, falling concrete, terrible food. I travel a lot for work and attend a game whenever I can in other cities. Petco, Turner, The Cell, Miller Park, Tropicana - all are so much better than Wrigley it's pathetic. I sincerely hope that the the new owner does something. I really do.

Yep, there is nothing more touching, "traditional" or "historic" than a father-son moment at the Wrigley Field troughs when your're 9-year old is getting hit by the backsplash of the 300 lb slob next to him who's also sneaking a peak at your junk. :?:

I'm all for leaving the troughs. They just add to the ambiance of the whole Wrigley experience. It just wouldn't look right if they updated the urinals. It would be like putting a GPS in a '57 Chevy.

A GPS? HA!

Check the Hot Rod mags...the hottest thing going for the last several years has been dropping in late model Corvette/Camaro drive trains into vintage muscle/classic cars.

Classic looks with modern performance & safety....something the Cubs should be addressing with the ****hole park they play in.

Well, thank god the sCrUBbie fans continue to grow their lore and share in the legend of the piss trough.

Imagine a world where they would be left to merely pine for the long lost days of the piss trough...that the piss trough could fade into the collective memory and cease to be a reality for them.....that they would be deprived of the reeking piss smell...never to again have the opportunity to experience vicarious piss splashes?

After all can you really exprience the reality that is sCrUBs baseball without sitting in a rat infested, concrete fallin', piss trough legend ****hole? Hell no! You go sCrUBbies......!

I have to say it. That other website you refer to is a sad state for a fan message board. It doesn't even come close to being the WSI for Cub fans. This board talks more about the Cubs than that board (for better or for worse)... where are all the Cub fans at - not posting there... even after the Bradley trade, there was no action there to talk about it.

I've been to many games at Wrigley as we get tickets 4-5 times a year through work. I gotta say, I sort of prefer the troughs. It is a more efficient means to getting through the line at Wrigley. I really don't think that place could use regular urinals because the line would stretch clear to the outfield worse than it already does.

Just gotta make sure you don't wear flip-flops to the game as there are puddles you have to walk through (but that's just water, right? :redneck)
