Just got a text from ESPN saying that Lowell was traded to Texas for C/1B Max Rameriz

Not surprising, read this as a proposed deal earlier today on MLBTR. Trading away Millwood gave the Rangers the money to do this and sign Rich Harden. All those moves [plus the Mariners being busy this offseason] make the AL West a little more interesting in 2010.

Is this a done deal? Last I saw, Rosenthal said it could be shot down because of Lowell's health. He also said the Red Sox would be eating most of his salary.

That's what my text from ESPN said. To be honest, I don't think he can play 3rd anymore so I'm not sure why Texas would want him, but, whatever.

According to MLB.com, the commissioner must approve the trade because of the money involved.

On another note, Harden doesn't really seem to be a good fit with Texas given Ryan's pitching philosophies.

The deal is done, it is just pending Lowell passing his physical in Texas.

This trade will not be actually finalized for a few days. God only knows if Lowell can play 3rd. I saw him make some great plays last year only to see him screw up Royal.

Looks like the trade is dead, per MLB Trade Rumors and CBS. Lowell failed his physical and will need ligament surgery.

Looks like Beltre and Adrian Gonzalez might be pipedreams for BOS right now.

With the Red Sox willing to trade him for peanuts (and pay most of his contract to boot) I have to wonder whether our Sox would have any interest in Lowell as a DH and occasional corner infielder. Great clubhouse guy, .810 career OPS.

His health status remains the issue, however. With the surgery he now needs, will he even be ready by April?

Yay! I hope they sign JD now, perfect fit for him.

He's supposed to be ready right about the start of spring training. He'd certainly be ready for DH duty.

Am I the only one who would definitely take Lowell if the BoSox are paying us 9mil? Not sure who we would have give up though. I certainly wouldnt give up anybody in our top 6 prospects, but if something like Retherford and a pitching prospect not named Hudson gets it done they I would say go for it. I know hes not LH, young, or athletic, but he may be the best pure hitter that we can reasonably acquire.
