Why are the Tigers so hot to trade Edwin Jackson? Didn't he have a good year for them? Is it just to shed payroll?

Pretty sure he had a rather forgetful 2nd half of the season. My guess is they are trying to sell high before he turns back into a pumpkin.

Yes. Plus Boras is his agent and he's not interested in any extensions. He wants to be a FA in 2 years so even if he continues to do well they'll either lose him or have to pay him and Verlander top starter money. So sell high.

But based on the rumors I'm seeing they are not going to give him away.

Supposedly they are currently sorting through 12 different team's trade proposals.

Does anyone have a sense of why are the Tigers peddling Jackson so hard?

Apparently Jackson was to be a part of a blockbuster 3 way trade that was vetoed by one of the teams earlier today. It involved Granderson going to the Yankees, and Jackson to the Diamondbacks. No mention what players would be going to the Tigers.

With the Tigers losing Polanco and possibly Jackson and Granderson. I see are only competition for the division title will be the Twins

Rumors I saw were Austin Jackson, Phil Coke, Matt Scherzer, and Michael Dunn. Also said that only 1 team was really happy with the deal and based on the principals I'd say it was the Diamondbacks. They would have gotten Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy.

I also read that the Tigers started with Phil Hughes and Austin Jackson from the Yankees as a starting point for Granderson. They are not going to give him away.

Edwin Jackson for Scherzer is a deal I'd do.

great pick up for the Yankees. It's awesome to see the Tigers get weaker

I'm not all that high on Austin Jackson. Will be interesting to see who else the Tigers receive.

On the contrary. They got a pretty good haul.

The D-Backs got hosed in this deal. I don't understand the thought process on their part.

Yeah, nothing like getting two young cheap starters to make people scream "I don't understand."

They traded a guy with good stuff but serious command and injury issues and some prospects for a good young starter with zero issues and a good young starter with injury issues that are at least not obviously lingering.

seemed to be a deal where everyone won

Ehh I think Jackson is a bit overrated, and it showed in the 2nd half last season. Scherzer, while not a guarantee, has an extremely high ceiling. Not to mention he will cheaper and under team control for a much longer time. Doesnt make a whole lot of sense on AZ's side in my opinion.
