How long until we see him on ESPN?

The nation just got a bit smarter. Chip still thinks a base hit is a batted ball.

I liked Chip. much better than Joe Buck or the total dumbass that works games with him....

So who is the ideal replacement for playoff games? And in what may be the opposite light, who do we think they'll end up choosing?

I liked Chip. much better than Joe Buck or the total dumbass that works games with him....I didn't really like Chip, but I didn't hate him as much as other people did. I agree about Buck, though. At least Caray didn't come accross as a holier-than-thou snarky ******* who had very little interest in the game going on.

Caray does seem like a nice guy, I just think he was in way over his ability level. There are some sons of broadcasters who are excellent (John Kelly who does PBP for the St. Louis Blues sounds like his dad) and some who are awful (his brother, Dan, who did the Hawks in the Foley-less years).

Caray just wasn't very good.

"SWUNG ON BELTED!! DEEEEP FLY BALL!!!!!

Caught by the second baseman."

Poor Chip. Real likable guy but a real bad announcer.

Although, he was so entertaining sometimes, he made games in which I had no rooting interest in about 10% better.

One of my favorites went something like this:

Chip: "A TRIPLE PLAY! FOLKS, YOU DO NOT SEE THAT VERY OFTEN! WOW!"

Stone: "There was already an out, so that was just a double play."

Meh....replace the words "Chip Caray" to "Joe Buck" and "TBS" to "FOX" and I'd be a lot more ecstatic.

Darn.

Now who will fill the 15 times a game quota of proclaiming a hit as "fisted?"

My favorite was still that 163 game tie-breaker between the Tigers and Twins:

LINE DRIVE BASE HIT !!..CAUGHT OUT THERE...AND HE'S...GOING TO BE OUT ! AT THE PLATE !

I think he said safe in that call too.

Not that I'm defending Chip Caray, since I never cared for his announcing, but if "mistake-plagued work" is one of the reasons he's out at TBS then Mike Adamle should've been out of a job a long time ago. Sad thing is is Caray was let go but Len Kasper, Joe Buck, and Tim McCarver all still have broadcasting jobs.

And Vanilla Len was the third guy on the list that accepted the Cups tv broadcast opening back then.....:redneck

Never heard a broadcaster who was worse at reading balls off the bat. Chip is an idiot and I am glad to read this news.

He made some exciting calls, didn't he? At least he cared, even if he was a bumbler. Someone above sharply named Adamle as the same, good catch. Buck should announce funerals, his style is perfect for them.

Well let's hope that this rumor is true because Sean McDonough is one of the few ESPN announcers I enjoy for both baseball and college bball.

Fenway: Looking for your Boston expertise. I think McDonough is an excellent broadcaster and I enjoy his work on ESPN.

Thanks to satellite radio and the Extra Innings package, I've been able to listen to portions of Bruins and Red Sox broadcasts.

Is it me or do the PBP guys for Bruins radio and Red Sox TV sound quite a bit like McDonough?

Well, Sneed tells us in today's Bright One that Chip is Harry's son.

Man is she worthless and I bet consumes a significant portion of that paper's cash flow.

To be honest, I liked Carey's call of McGwire's 62nd home run better than that of Buck, and to be honest, that was the call that started my hatred of Buck. Maybe I liked it better because I was watching the Cubs feed on WGN when it happened. Other than that though, I won't miss Carey in the booth. The guys on the Afternoon Saloon were ripping on him yesterday.

I would agree with you on that, but that just means Chip is the lesser of two evils in that case.

I thought Chip's first couple of seasons in the Cubs broadcast booth were rough, but he did improve over time.

Didn't he turn down the Cubs because of prior contract commitments. I think he may have been their 1st choice??
