I went tonight and here is what I have to say:

-The rain delay started in a hurry. The rain was pouring. The concourse was crowded and very stuffy.

-During the rain delay we had the first power outage as two light banks went out with a big bang.

-Once the game got started as many of you know there was another big bang and the same two light banks went out. This was funny cause when it happened 8 of the Sox players on the field just stood there and watched, but Carlos "The Coward" sprinted in and was in the dugout before anyone else had even moved from where they were.

-TV could not do Aaron Rowand's first inning catch justice. He went a long way to make that grab, I was shocked he got there. Carlos never had a shot.

-Rowand also just missed a home run, as did Mags. Franks home run was a towering fly that go caught in the wind and another gust would have surely taken it out. Paulie's was a high one too that I didn't think would make it.

-There was a fight in the LF bleachers at one point. Right in the front row. In fact the one guy fell over and both guys almost ended up on the field.

-There was a drunk girl in RF with like half a shirt on telling guys she spilled beer all over and who wanted to lick it off her boobs. I wasn't there my dad told me about it (damn!), but he said one guy did it.

-Thats about it. I still think the Ushers at Comiskey are *******s, but what else is new.....

Maybe he just needed to use the bathroom. :D:

I was at the debacle with my family last night but with all the stinkin' delays only stayed five innings because we had to get the kids in bed. Some observations:

-The remodeling of the Club Level came in handy--the carpeted areas and seating made for a nicer way of dealing with the rain delay (although we ended up having to sit on the floor, it beat bare concrete). It did get rather interesting during the first power outage during the rain delay--all the exhaust fans from the food stands stopped so smoke backed up into the concourse.

-Churro availability needs to be a bigger concern for Sox operations management. Hard working fans shouldn't feel obliged to go down to the main concourse for such baisc necessities of life.

-As MattSharp points out, the Rowand catch was much more impressive when seen live than the highlights made it out to be.

-I know this all translated to TV: Glover had nothin' last night--they were tatooing him like crazy. The 4th inning was yet another example of lousy pitcher logistics. Glover was in big trouble, runs scored, Nardi's heading out to the mound and nobody is warming up yet--brutal.

-"Highlight" of the evening: during the rain delay we were standing in line at one of the chow venues on the main concourse. When I got my food I turned around and found that Jerry Springer was standing behind me with some production assistant-type. I resisted the urge to tell him that my neighbor was a bulemic, cross-dressing, albino dwarf with a pornography addiction.

He's got season tickets in 133. At the Yanks game last week he was with what looked like a 15 year old with Jenna Jameson (sp?) boobs... he was heckled with R. Kelly comments all night. There is a God...

I was in the 6th row of the bleachers and saw the fight. The guy that was on his back is on the same ticket plan as us and is there all the time. He is usually rather annoying. I think he stepped on the other guy's wife when trying to get in position for Rowand's warning track shot. After the play they started arguing and then the fists started flying.
The ironic thing is, that guy had just caught the Rowand homer Thursday afternoon against KC. Right after he got booted, they were showing that highlight on the screen and you could see him jumping up and down with the ball.

Actually, that's not right. Jose was the first one into the dugout. He took off so fast, you had to be looking at him to have seen him go. On TV in the suite DJ says something like "Jose wasting no time getting off the field... and here comes Carlos too."

Then Hawk says "If the Hawkeroo had been down there, Jose would have been the 2nd man in the dugout."

Attack me all you want, but let me say there is no way I would attend a half-price night with my family. Fights and lewd behavior? No thanks. Things are getting out of control the way Friday nights used to be at Old Comiskey in 50's, 60's, and 70's.

The teams spends a fortune trying to convince everyone that the ballpark is kid-friendly, and then crazy **** like this starts happening everytime 20,000 people get in for $5. I'll give you one guess what they're spending the "savings" on.

My kids are young and limited to Sunday afternoon games anyway, so it's no big deal. However, if they were 3-5 years older, I would NOT take them to Comiskey for these bargain nights unless things change dramatically.

Letting people into the ballpark for half-price will not solve the Sox' attendance problems. I'm sorry to keep harping on this point, but it appears the people running the show have no clue what they are doing.

PHG exposes one of the nice things about Wrigley. The bums in the bleachers are seperate from the rest of the park, you can keep better control on them and you can seprate the park a little. Young adults looking to drink some beer and have a good time over here, and families looking to watch some baseball and entertain the young ones for a few hours over here. Maybe the Sox should make the upperdeck or bleachers 1/2 or 1/4 price and bring out those gates(when the park first opened) out of retirement.

I hated those gates. But Dadawg is right--drop the UD seat prices by half, but make the people who buy those seats stay up there, even if the lower bowl is 2/3s empty. Keep the people who are saving their money for beer away from the people who are there to watch the game.

One other thing I didn't see mentioned.
What was with the guy that jumped onto the field near the right field line in the 8th inning? It looked like he was trying to take off his pants right before the green jackets grabbed him.
Half price nights sure bring out the loonies. :?:

thought he was at wrigley aka the world's largest outdoor portapotty.

Seriously anyone at the game yesterday near that guy? Looked like he was about to fertilize the lawn.

Hey Zach, thought you said it was me not half price night that caused major behavioral breakdowns in the fan base.

I stand corrected, it is a combination of your aura and the lure of more $$$ for beer that bring out the dregs of society.
No more games for you.

Yeah I was there too. What an exciting the day. The game wasn't good but the rest was exciting.

-The Club level is very nice. It looks like a hotel and as someone said it was very useful to sit there on the carpet and watch the Yankees-Diamondbacks on the flat screens.

-Not only was there a fight but some guy came on the field in right and starting to take off his pants before some security wrestled him out

-Everytime some people cheered everyone stood up to see if there was another fight or something. It was crazy.

-That was halarious when Carlos sprinted in when the power went out. lol.

-We didn't have many hits but we hit some balls hard. I know that doesn't count as anything but Thomas and Ordonez just missed solo shots and Rowand just missed a 2-run homer.

At least this didn't happen at Comiskey:

Oh gosh.. I forgot about that. He jumped the fence from the bar and took about 10 steps, turned and faced the bar, and dropped trou!! Mooned some guys he appeared to know sitting down the first base line. It was a nasty sight.

I too was at the debacle last night. It does appear that 1/2 price nights (especially when the Cubs are out of town...surprise, surprise...) have degenerated into Miller fueled mayhem. It wasn't this bad in previous years on 1/2 price night. I've already seen more fights this year at Comiskey then in the previous 10 combined. I wonder what has gotten into people this year?

-1 hr 43 minute rain delay

-2 power outages (3 if you include the Sox bats)

-lots of Mets fans sitting around me

-my "L" train took FOREVER to get me home stopping for long stretches for no apparent reason.

-Royce batting in the 7th with a runner on! WHY?!!!!!!

All this makes up for the worst game I've been to all year. Oh well, it's off to the Ivy covered urinal for me on Saturday. Hopefully the Sox will have figured out how to hit by then...
