Interesting article from Crain's on the White Sox using a new business operation to generate additional revenue.

Interesting. I'll bet part of it was A.J.'s idea.. With the whole SEC thing...

What's great about that is that the revenue is not subject to the pool that determines revenue sharing with other clubs. The Red Sox exploited this idea. Ever see those people at events who will take your picture and it gets superimposed over a very cool background at the event? That's the Red Sox.

Makes sense, as this new venture can easily get business from mlb advanced media, as well as other sports leagues. Hell, they're already cross-pollinating with the bulls.

Good news...so how long will it be before we stop hearing Ozzie say things like, "well I'd love to have ______, but there's 30 other teams that are going to want him and he's really expensive..." (aka Figgins this season)?

The Red Sox sold Fanphoto a few years ago. They no longer own it.

Never. There are 29 other other teams, not 30.

Red Sox are generating 200 million in revenue from that Nascar venture?

Wonder how much they net on that?

Boyer is forward thinking, which is great. New revenue streams are just good for the fans if it means bigger payrolls.

I guess that depends on how much revenue it really pulls in. Hopefully, it's significant.

This is a great idea. The digital frontier is still wide open for anyone who has enough capital to enter the market (meaning more dollars than just trying to start a company on a shoestring).

Would ownership have to report this revenue to MLB or the MLBPA? Not to sound cynical, but there is no guarantee that this new revenue stream would be reinvested in the baseball operation.

Interesting article from Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/sportsNews/idUSTRE59P3WM20091026) about the White Sox and how they're trying to increase revenue. Didn't see anything in the Chicago media about it. Not sure how much revenue it will bring in but I'm curious to see how it pans out, sure can't hurt...

Saw the article online but had no clue what they are really trying to do...anyone understand what the business actually does and how it might fit in with the baseball operations?

Why stop here?

Let's branch out to the SoxMaids, who clean your house in feminine-themed Sox gear!

How about the ChiSox Car Wash, SoxRealty, and the WashYourSox Laundromat??!!

And if JD stays with the team in 2010 they can open a chain of hair salons/barber shops called 'Curl Up and Dye'!!!
